What would be a bad start if shooting 34% from the field and 28% from 3 is pretty well? And he's still a hole on defense.
It's like he didn't improve one bit since his second year in the league. I personally like the dude and his cockiness, but I don't know how I'd survive watching him play for a team I like. His shot selection is beyond atrocious, and young age can't be an excuse anymore.
I think he'd be much better as a 2nd option next to a big/forward.

You're not watching their games, clearly. It's fine but don't pretend you are.

I didn’t watch every game but I caught their season opener and the game vs the Bucks. I try to follow as much Serbian players as I can.
Do you have any arguments or just baseless assumptions about me? I’m sure you watch Trae a lot more than me, so I’d love to learn where and how I’m wrong.

Eh, it's not a baseless assumption if you're admitting (as I said) that you don't watch them much.

He's improved defensively, in the team concept, which has helped them significantly.

He's working within the concept of the offense - not relying on hero ball, which is oddly what he was asked to do in prior regimes - so I'm not sure why that gets pinned solely on him.

His shooting percentages aren't good, but the hope is that they'll improve as the season progresses based on what he's being asked to do offensively. Especially now that they're facilitating him playing off the ball. Instead of just saying it, the coaches are actually installing actions that allow it. And have players on the floor that can actually dribble and pass, which alleviates the reliance on Trae.

Hawks have a top 3 offense right now, which shows how great of a playmaker he is. He is Kidd/Nash level of a passer/playmaker. Trae is playing very well right now. His shot just isn't falling so if you aren't watching the games it's easy to assume he's just jacking up bad shots and making bonehead decisions. This isn't happening, he's being much more calculated and focusing more on running the offense rather than play hero ball (which Nate's system asked him to do). He's missed a lot of easy looks he will start to make. When Trae's shooting #'s return to career averages we may have the best offense in the league. Oh and he's actually playing average defense too, but that narrative will take a long time to go way. He will need to be consistent and do it a full year.

We aren't running the heliocentric, Luka/Harden style offense anymore. Quin has thankfully taken us off of that and the players have bought in.

He is a top 5 offensive player in the NBA (but not near Jokic). His defense is so bad though

Steph, shai, luka, hali, tatum, embiid, giannis, KD are all clearly better offensively

I wouldn't say top five offensive player, I would say top 5 playmaker. Shooting wise he is terrible. After 13 games he finally had a game were he shot over 45%. He has been shooting sub 40% for most of the season.

He’s a good floor raiser but also a bit of a ceiling capper. Your offense will never be bad with Trae Young running the show, but your defense will always be suspect. I view him as a slightly lesser version of Dame Lillard.

It is clear who has actually watched him play a game since Dec 2022 and going forwards. He's not bad on defense anymore. 2020 called and wants its trash Trae talking point back. He's significantly improved his defense while still being the best passer, by far, in the NBA.

So do other great passers. Never said there aren't other great passers. But someone is the best at it. The guy that leads the NBA in assists year in, year out and is absolutely amazing at passing guys open is Trae Young. He's the best at it.

You are free to disagree but that's my opinion.

Talking about bad season start, Trae's
first 10 games: 23.5/2.7/10.9a/4.1to; .356 fg%/.278 3p%
Since 9 games: 31.3/2.9/10.2a/3.6to; .463 fg%/.409 3p%
That's two levels of difference.
