It's impossible to make that case.

I just take the Texas Bama **** out of it and put UGA in. No number 1 ranked team that lost in the championship game has been left out I think, so something has to give.

Pivotal decision for the committee. They are going to set precedent as to whether a team deserves to make it based solely on merit vs. current roster construction. Will come into play more as the field expands.

They've already set that precedent though, including when OSU was in with a 3rd-string QB.

They've already set that precedent though, including when OSU was in with a 3rd-string QB. They have shown time and again that it's about merit and resume. The controversies have essentially only been about which resume was better, not about whether that's the criteria.
The only difference this time is that selecting by merit would hurt their ratings so much more than usual. In the past, they didn't have to make such huge sacrifices to select by merit, despite the occasional TCU or Cincinnati getting in over a helmet school. But they have proven they'll make that sacrifice before, and I see no reason that they won't do it again.

That team beat Wisconsin 59-0 in the B10 Title game. They were nothing like the FSU team that struggled to score against Louisville last night.

Doesn't Texas have a massive fanbase? If it's between Texas & Bama then I'd think Texas would provide larger ratings

I think Texas is unquestionably in. It's Bama vs. FSU for the 4th spot.
