Who Would You Rather Have: Alperen Sengun or Chet Holmgren?

I like that Sengun is an offensive facilitator from the C position , got so much vision and playmaking ability for the position, you can build a team/system around him players like that really unique IMO, and he's a much better defender than people around here say as his defensive stats shows .

Did you seriously think Sengun had top 10 potential 20 games into his rookie year? It's obvious who the better and more consistent player is today but one guy has 165 games under his belt while the other is 20 games into his career.

Unsure, I had him #2 behind Mobley with a higher ceiling going into the draft.

Ugh this matchup was so underwhelming due to Chet staying in foul trouble and Alpy being off.

Takeaways:
In their VERY limited matchup Chet's length and shot block timing really bothered Alperen while Alperen's savviness and strengrh really bothered Chet.

Alperen is officially the hub of that HOU offense. FVV and Udoka have clearly passed him the reins and initiate their offense in the middle of the court thru him and he is very capable of being the primary decision maker.

Chet is not going to ever develop into anything more than a secondary or even third offensive option on a team ALTHOUGH he may be asked or forced in the future to play the primary role for whatever reason (trade, injuries) but it's very clear offensively he plays off of SGA Giddey and even Williams at times.

Chet's bread and butter will be defensively.

Chet doesn't have the foul drawing ability of Alperen on both sides of the ball due to how they play while defensively Chet uses athleticism timing and length while Alpy uses his body strength hands craftiness and timing.

Think I'm going with Sengun. He seems a more complete player who actually is a #1 option whereas I don't see Chet being that due to his limitations.

Chet has defensive potential but people are pretending like he is not at times a defensive liability right now as well. With how much talent OKC has it seems strange that people are focusing on Chet. Between the two I would take Sengun who is the better overall player right now and because I have no idea what the future hold for either one of them and no one else here does either. Maybe in 5 years someone who guessed right can bump this thread and pretend to be smarter than the rest of us.

Sengun is better right now, he's looking like a Jokic-lite player.

Chet has more 2-way upside, but his only real advantage right now over Sengun is defense.

This is going to be a great matchup for 10+ years. Great for the league. Both in their very early 20's and a bight future ahead.

Personally I think a player like Sengun is harder to find and will end up create very unique playoff headaches. It's really difficult for your team to stay organized while guarding him, there's so many things he can do with the ball. His shooting is a lot better and it looks like in a year or two he will be a good shooter. He's a 21 year old protecting the rim for a top 10 defense. That's pretty amazing if you take his offense into consideration.

Chet is going to be a problem and if he stays healthy will be one of the best C's in the league one day. I just think his weight will be an issue in the playoffs against many opponents for at least a few years. I could be wrong, he has already surprised me with his play.

Only way Sengun wins this is if he becomes a true offensive hub of a contending team. HE is currently the offensive hub of a low end Playoff team. That is great progress, but it remains to be seen if his style of play can translate to the upper echelon teams and games in the postseason, like Jokic has.

If Sengun cannot, then I'll take Chet because I am more certain that his defensive skills will be super valuable on a championship contender. So really this all depends on if Sengun can scale up like Jokic's game did.

Has Sengun had a game better than that? And how many games into his career did it take him?

He did. He was on the Raptors board talking Sengun up. He's been a fan for a while, I can confirm.
