Not sure I agree with this move. He can be good in the postseason, but can he really hold up on the long haul of the season?

Also, the Sox reportedly picked up the option on Wakefield.

Very good news. I'm happy to have Schill and Wake back.

Good news. I can't remember where I read it but a GM said, "there is no such thing as a bad one year deal."

I guess this is good. They weren't going to get any draft picks for letting him walk, so may as well bring him back. And for 8 million, how can you complain? If he makes 13 million, even better.

Leaves only 1 spot left in the rotation for Buccholz or Lester. Maybe those Santana rumors will be realized!

i've heard they're thinking about a 6-man rotation this year. which would make sense with lester and clay. plus given how dice wore down this season and curt's age, it could be the direction they're headed in.

I like how Schilling's contract includes a weight clause. You would think that would get him into camp in shape at least.

I doubt they would be willing to have Beckett start 5 less games this year.

you're probably right. it just seems like with the rotation and pieces we do have it is at least conceivable.

BoSox could go with six-pack rotation

When the Boston Red Sox resigned Curt Schilling, it means they now have six starting pitchers. But instead of talking about taking someone out of the rotation, GM Theo Epstein suggested a six-man staff will be under consideration for 2008.

The Red Sox have Schilling, Josh Beckett, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Tim Wakefield, Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz available for starting duty. The Boston Herald reported the Sox would also need a long reliever meaning they would carry 12 pitchers instead of the normal 11.

"I'm sure that topic will come up a lot," Epstein said. "It's an interesting concept given the personnel we have, but it's not something we've fully explored yet."
