Good win. Much crisper on offense and totally dominated with defense and rebounding.
Rudy, wow, the confidence and aggressiveness is night and day between this season and last year.
Took last year's DPOY Jaren Jackson and totally made him his b-word, dominating him 20-2 on the glass including 9 offensive.
KAT did a great job guarding him straight up and let Rudy roam like a monster in the paint.
He is just a beast right now. We are using him so much better on offense as a screener and he is playing so much smarter on that end than earlier in the season. Much smarter and more selective about rolling to the rim, sniffing out screen opportunities within the offense, moving the ball quicker, finding offensive rebounding opportunities.
There's still the odd offensive foul, bad shot, or turnover, but there is so much more good to offset that now
There has been a growing trend where KAT defends the best offensive big on the other team and Rudy defends the rim, and it's been a good gameplan in many games. It works really, really well when you have perimeter defenders who can stay in front and keep their guy out of the paint. Of course Memphis was missing Ja tonight so they really didn't have that element.
And NAW, wow he worked his butt off locking down Bane who could only get 13 shots off, a game after scoring 49 points.
Such a huge contrast to be able to watch him in the same game as Nowell, who was a huge liability out there for Memphis.
Even when NAW has a bad offensive game, his defense and rebounding are a big plus.
When his shot is falling like tonight he's a double plus.
He evenly matched a max contract 25-5-5 player in Bane tonight, and that was the difference when our own superstar guard was out.
TBJ with a huge offensive game.
Mike with another master class in running the team.
Shake showing some life and hopefully starting to shake off his shooting slump.
Naz still with 10 and 9 on a night his outside shot was not falling.
This team just has so much more quality depth than i can ever remember.
I wish we had locked Brown and NAW up for 3 or 4 years in the offseason, those contracts are absolute bargains.
Re-signing Mike Conley is looking like an absolute must this offseason, and with the way he has been playing and shooting, I don't know how realistic it is that we get the sweetheart deal/ old man discount we are all hoping for.
Ant, man get him right. I don't care if he has to sit out until new year's.
Glad to hear Jmac is healthy and available again, hopefully that will allow us to dial back Mike's minutes into the high 20's to keep him fresh and healthy.
I also really like how Finch put Slo-mo and Shake, 2 guys who are struggling, out there with the scrubs for the final 3 minutes of garbage time to help them find a rythym, because we are going to need them to be the guys they were last year if we want our bench unit to be able to hold the leads our starters are going to build.
