The market said Tobias was worth the max too

Tobias got his contract to be a second scoring option because Simmons was a weird player. And he couldn’t do that well enough. I am fine with OG being a third option that averages 15-17, provides athleticism spacing and elite defense. Because those are the things Embiid and Maxey don’t do.

Once this new CBA really gets going it’s gonna be a thing where once you have 3 guys you basically have to fill in the cracks with minimum contracts and draft picks. If that’s the route we’re going I want to make sure all of our bases our covered and we’re not counting on some minimum contract guy to cover an all star big wing for 40 minutes of a playoff game.

OG Anunoby is a great fit not only because of what he can do but also his age. He's still an ascending player. Dorian Finney-Smith would be a nice consolation prize, but I personally think we should go all in on OG. He is the missing piece for this team in my opinion. I've also advocated for Siakam, but long-term, it may be a problem. We acquire OG now and we're going to get 7-8 years of solid play out of the guy. We'll have a mainstay at the wing position for a nice run. You put Maxey, OG, and Embiid on a floor as a trio and they can beat anyone in this league.

The things that give me pause with OG are how much he will cost to trade for and re-sign. Is he worth $30+ mil annually? His advanced stats are meh and he's failed to develop any shot-creating ability. I would lean towards just taking on Grant's contract because at least he has some form of offensive creation.

For either of them, I think you have to consider them small forwards because of how poorly they rebound. We would go back to getting crushed on the boards if we relied on either as a 4.

Getting Grant + Brogdon would be a dream. I imagine we would still have picks left over from such a deal. We could use either of their contracts + remaining picks to pursue another big fish that becomes available.

Is 30M annually all that bad when dudes will be making 60-70 soon?

OG is 26, I dont think hes going to get considerably better. Some talk like hes a 23 year old.

Fair point hes younger than Siakam whos probably going to start his decline in a couple of years. But i woudnt expect much improvement from OG in the future.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on his numbers this year. That raptors roster is positionless basketball vomit it makes no sense. He’s shown he can shoot, he can create a shot a bit too, feel like he made like 20 pull-up jumpers in our series against them.

If anything the raptors are what I’m trying to avoid here. They have too many guys with overlapping skills and they get in each others’ way.

It's not the number that's bad. It's bad when it's applied to a super role player with minimal shot-creation ability. He's not someone who would pick up any offensive load if Maxey/Embiid were out. Plus, he's never had the cleanest bill of health. Grant is a better shot-creator, will be cheaper to acquire, and has a less significant injury history. OG is just younger and a sexier name to go after.

Still don't understand WTF y'all see in Siakam.

We play Toronto all the time, in the regular season, in the playoffs, we've seen this guy play constantly, I don't know how you can watch him and desire this player on this team.

He's so awkward, and such a poor ball handler, and is just as clumsy as Joel. We don't need both these guys on the floor at the same time, they'll probably elbow each other in the face trying to execute a dribble hand off or something.

Siakam would be great for when Embiid is out, since he can do a lot of the same things Jo does. But I don't care about that because if Embiid is out we're going nowhere. Playing together they overlap a lot and Siakam is one of the worst 3PT shooters in the league so our spacing would be compromised.

OG is a better complementary piece for Embiid. But he's going to get crazy overpaid and/or we'd deplete all our assets to get him in a trade. Like what happened when we acquired Assassin. He's not worth what he will cost when we can get guys like Batum, Covington, and Oubre to provide similar impact for way less money.

I expect we'll find our trade target, if any, somewhere else. This team is already good enough that they should be very careful about any big trades, as they could be counterproductive.

Joel is taking more threes per game than Tobias.

Third leading scorer during the playoffs last year on the 4 conference finalists

Boston - Smart 14.9 PPG
Heat - Vincent 12.7 PPG
Nuggets - Porter 13.4
Lakers - Reaves 16.9

For reference Tobias who has been seemingly invisible this year is averaging 17.2.

The top 2 guys get fed the ball in the playoffs and the others have to find other ways to contribute.

Tobias has been hurting the spacing for Embiid to operate in the paint for the last 3 years

Jerami Grant to this team would be Aaron Gordon to the Nuggets.

We’re not winning the championship without Embiid.

But you need to atleast be able to steal a game or two with Embiid not playing or with Embiid playing like an ass in a 7 game series against a top team during the playoffs for you to atleast make it past the second round.

That’s how we almost beat the Celts. With Harden winning us G1. We just needed 1 more in G6 or G7.

It will happen again, we got like 5 years of sample size in the playoffs for this. Hell, we almost experience it again in our last game against the Hawks when he hurt his knee in the last 4-5 minutes of the game.

I'd rather get a guy that complements Embiid. We should be grooming Maxey to be the guy if Embiid is out for a game or two during a series. If Embiid is out for significant time, I don't see us getting far with Siakim anyway.

Compared to what? He was a PF spending almost all of his time in the corner, shooting 39% from 3 last year. Tobias had other flaws down the stretch last year, but if Embiid can’t find space with that scenario, it’s not on Tobi.

Compared to someone who shoots more than 3 a game.

Or provides secondary rim protection or can create his own shots near the end of the game and so forth and do on…

Preach.

Siakam is so obviously the wrong guy, for me.

And choosing the wrong guy at this juncture would deal a death blow to this era of Sixers basketball.

The latter two points have nothing to do with providing spacing for Joel.

As for the first point, if a wing or guard shoots less than three 3’s a game, maybe that’s affecting spacing. As a PF, that’s just normal. It’s like complaining that Aaron Gordon is affecting Jokic’s spacing.
