I'm curious to hear separate thought on this:

Lakers: 17 championships
Celtics: 17 championships

"Tied" in some peoples minds - everyone has an opinion on when, and where, championships were won...but a ring is a ring.

Now, if the Lakers win...is this a tiebreaker in anyone's minds? Curious on what y'all think.

No. I like the in-season tournament because it's kind of fun, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not any different from winning a regular season game. Except that it doesn't count toward your stats or record....

As I said in another thread, they should raise a banner that says “World Champions” to get all our favourite euros on here heated :)

Absolutely. The Lakers have had sustained excellence longer than the Celtics anyway. The cup is definitely a tiebreaker. People don't realize that this is already the second most prestigious team award in the league after the championship, maaaaybe 3rd after a conference finals trophy but realistically this is going to become one of those things people look forward to competing for every year.
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

But then if it's to get euros heated, you will get the rest of us, low level humans of the earth who do not live in europe or north america heated about euros and americans being considered "the world".

No you don't hang the banner but you create a showcase or add additional shelving for the NBA Cup

Actually not a bad thought process.

OK, but do you really think teams are gonna give out rings for winning 7 regular season games or whatever it is?
Or do players buy their own rings w the extra $500k? :D

You can get a pretty big ring for $100k and keep the rest, point taken :)

I am struggling to tell if this exchange meant as parody.

The whole history of Celtics vs Lakers could be swung by the IST cup? Literally made up nonsense of a 83rd game where the stats don’t count.

It must be parody now that I type that out. It is to absurd to be real.

Let's be real, it's completely ridiculous. I mean, there's a reason why the playoffs are best of seven. Single-elimination makes no sense in the NBA and this tournament will never be respected like an NBA title.

Cope. This is pure hoops. The real ballers balled this tournament.vWhen it's winning time you don't rise to the occasion, you fall to the level of your training. That's why Zion got clapped. When the real killers in the league lock in on you for one game you can't coast on talent.

They've created quite a spectacle. I mean I would've never stayed in to watch a Lakers and Pacers game on a Saturday this season and if the same game came on next Saturday at the same time, I wouldn't either and I came into this game ready to enjoy, imagine if it had been Tatum Embiid or Giannis vs LeBron Jokic or KD.

The Lakers organization and all of their chips gives it some credibility and if Adam Silver makes them hang it in the rafters, then all teams would do it ongoing.
