Caleb setting himself for a nice career

Post#1 » by AaronB » Mon Dec 11, 2023 4:18 pm

All reports are that Houstan is setting himself up for a really nice career. They say he is the first in the gym and the last to leave. He is always watching film with coaches and on his own.

He may or may not make it as an NBA player (I think that he will), but this work ethic and what he is learning will set himself up for a long career as a coach.

Yeah, I was really pleased to hear that during the press conference

His predraft scouting report

PLUSES
Good spot-up shooter with an economical shooting release. He made 38.7 percent of catch-and-shoot 3s last season, per Synergy.

One of the most savvy off-ball players in the draft. He has a natural feel for cutting to the basket. When his shot is falling, he has excellent spatial awareness and can find soft spots in the defense.

Reliable passer who limits mistakes on offense. Whether he’s attacking a closeout, running on the break, or simply spotting up from behind the arc, he tends to make the right play.

Strong team defender who constantly stays engaged in the play and makes smart rotations. On-ball, he fights hard and has good fundamentals and positioning to compensate for his lack of elite athleticism.

If I did not know any better, I would say that coach Mose has a soft spot for guys that are 6-8, limited athletic ability and really work hard to improve their craft.

I am really rooting for him. I wish he was featured more in our socials but I don’t know if that’s because he stays away from the lime light. He has the prettiest shot on the team and I think most of us feel that he would be an excellent 3 point shooter if he can just get minutes. Oh, is it me or is he as tall as Paolo now?

Joe Ingles had a recent interview where he mentioned the value of carving out a role and a long career instead of trying to be the star. He’s a great candidate for it. Just keep working on that 3PT shot.

I wonder if he's being UNDERutilized...is he already Buddy Hield in handcuffs? The same coach that sent Jett to the G-league while the boards talk about ORL's low position in 3pt shooting (and making) stats.

Whenever he hits a shot the bench erupts. Apart form how awesome team chemistry is overall, I think they’re all particularly rooting for Caleb because he works so hard.

I’d love nothing more than if he became our new JJ.

Before Suggs took off, he was my dark horse to be our future starting 2. I think he fits really well with Black, PB, Franz. Would not shock me if they let Gary walk and he slides into that 18min game back up role to Suggs next year.

I think he'll be a great backup to Franz. He's way too big to play as a guard unfortunately. But in the future I have no doubt he'll be an elite shooter with volume. His shot is perfection.

You love to see it. Same for Jett. When he hit a 3 (i think) vs the Pistons. First two to stand up and cheer him on where Paolo and Franz.

Lately Ive been thinking if he should already be playing instead of Gary. Gary hasnt had a good game in weeks. Whenever Caleb plays, I feel like he never hurts. He is just solid.

Caleb is a nice 14th man. I don’t see him replacing Gary over the next 15 games.
