Re: Prospect Spotlight -- Tyrese Haliburton
I can't help but wonder, had we just taken Tyrese at #6 in 2020, would we have needed to pay so much to acquire DeJounte or needed to move Huerter in a cost cutting move?

Maybe there was also a chance to pick Okongwu with 6th and trading for the 12th pick to get Haliburton, sending one or two future picks.
Would have been perfect

There's still hope for OO but missing on Halliburton may have changed our trajectory at the time.
Even Darius Garland seems much much better than Hunter from previous draft.
Not to mention Reddish over several other better players.

Re: Prospect Spotlight -- Tyrese Haliburton
Passing on Tyrese for Okongwu is looking worse than passing on Luka.
Not getting Hali from SAC last year in return for a Collins/Huerter package really hurts.

Re: Prospect Spotlight -- Tyrese Haliburton
Forget the Luka trade, bypassing on this kid in 2020 draft is the real cardinal sin of the Travis Schlenk era...

Re: Prospect Spotlight -- Tyrese Haliburton
CBS SportsTyrese Haliburton regret rankings
11 NBA teams passed on drafting a star
7. Atlanta Hawks
In many ways, Haliburton-to-Atlanta would have been similar to the situation he found in Sacramento. Trae Young, like De'Aaron Fox, was a pre-established young star who needed the ball in his hands. The two would have been fine together, but neither would have been optimized. We'd either be watching the two of them languish on a .500 team, or one of them would have been traded. Even if Haliburton is better than Young, he probably would have been the one that got dealt just because Young, like Fox, was older and had less value on the open market. The Hawks would look drastically different had they taken Haliburton over Onyeka Okongwu, but it's hard to imagine them maximizing the Haliburton pick.

37% from the field, 38% from three, and that's shooting poorly by his standards.

Haliburton on a tear.
A point guard that can shoot makes everything easier on the rest of the team. The Pacers have their guy!

And a PG who doesn't turn the ball over 4 times a game...

If the Hawks end up with like the 8th pick and Edwards, Jalen, Wise, Oturu, and Okongwu are off the board then Hali could be a good pick up for the Hawks.
Hali and Young could be a better version of CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard.
Having Trae and Ty would be a very interesting backcourt duo. Their games would compliment each other very well, but both guys would need to bulk up big time because the Hawks would have the skinniest backcourt in the whole NBA.
I've always been a big fan of Hal, but Hawks did the right thing in drafting a center.
