If I was on a business trip to Phoenix and was having a big meeting with some other companies and just up and punched a guy in the face, I'd likely get arrested, wouldn't I?

Being on a basketball court doesn't mean you can just physically assault someone unprovoked without legal consequence. If I'm Nurkic & the Suns I file a **** police report

That's a bridge too far. They aren't hittin him with assault. He deserves a suspension and that's where it's gonna end.

Of course they won't...but in reality they should. This wasn't a basketball play. They weren't fighting. It's no different than a normal person sucker punching someone.

Lol that you know what I think.

I didn’t say it was ok.

I said you don’t get to regulate my speech. You don’t.

Your usage of the term perfectly illustrates that you think “it was ok”.

It was ok.

There's nothing tough about hitting people when they're not expecting it

The consequences have to be serious enough to serve as a real deterrent.

I think this would make an interesting question for a separate thread.

No doubt Draymond has the rings, and defensive accolades to be a candidate. But remember, the ultimate role of even having a Hall of Fame is to shine a positive light on the history of the game.

When people tell stories about Draymond in five, ten or twenty five years, are they going to talk about his rings, or are they going to talk about him suckerpunching other players? Does the NBA want his image lingering over the game?

As with other incidents, Draymond tried to sell it as unintentional. It wasn't a punch or an open handed slap - more of a flailing forearm.

Nurkic played after the incident and had no visible injury. It wasn't a flat footed, full on shiver. He was falling (flopping) as he threw it. That doesn't clear Draymond, but it's a consideration.

I'm going to say it's 2-3 games with no history. For Draymond 5. Silver could surprise me with 7-10 but I'd be shocked if it was more than that.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I do agree with what you're saying. But Rodman and the Mailman are in right?

You’re 100% right. And Pete Rose is still out, right?

And I think you have a good point about recency bias. The Hall is for longterm history

I don’t have a dog in the fight or a strong opinion, so I’d be interested reading a thread to see if either side could convince me.

He thinks he's getting a statue in front of the arena. Maybe Lacob taking that away will do it. He's already filthy rich so monetary punishment won't solve it. He's already won it all multiple times so missing games or even the season won't solve it. Gotta crush his spirit and only one person has that power

You’re not wrong but pretty sure Ty Cobb is in the HOF.

Karl Malone hasn't been ostracized. And he did far more damage than Draymond, as well as raping a 13 year old. I don't see Draymond being kept out for this kind of stuff.

Not a fan of Draymond's antics but his resume is currently good enough to get into the HoF:

4x Champion
4x All-Star
1x Defensive Player of the Year
2x All-NBA (1x Second, 1x Third)
8x All-Defense (4x First, 4x Second)
1x Steals Leader

30 game suspension
GSW are forced to relinquish draft postion and are left with pick 30 in the draft, everyone moves up 1 spot at seasons end.

Teams should start having a reprocussion to entitling and not punishing their players after multiple infractions to the rules.

I agree about the flop.

It was not incidental or accidental, and 100% on Green. Nurk does provoke opposition but that was unwarranted.

I do think it likely the league will fine and suspend Green, probably 8-10 games. Silver has to show some teeth.

POR owns 24 GSW FRP.

The only way I see Green not making the HOF is if he gets into some legal troubles between retiring and getting inducted into the HOF - and I think there is a real good chance he does.

Then their 25th.

The team should not in any way benefit long term for Draymonds actions.

He reminds me of someone like Antonio Brown or Richie Incognito where his behaviour gets more and more erratic over time, only he doesn't have the excuse of repeated brain injuries. Bizarre.
