It was fine until Giannis twisted and tried to go for the and-1.

You can't reach down and grab a dude around the neck area from behind just because you got caught in the air. Intent doesn't matter, it was clearly a flagrant.

I think most people think it was a flagrant. Yeah it was excessive/no longer allowed those types of fouls, but TA was acting like he was going to throw haymakers because they tried killing Giannis or something. It was a hard foul appropriately penalized.
