This would have been a better reason for the Pacers to have taken the game ball.
In all seriousness, RIP to the legend.

Along with being an all time great he was a very nice man. I've meet him a few times.

Come on, tell us at least a couple of stories. You throw the appetizer then run away,

I don't have and good stories. I had season tickets for 30 years. I went to a lot of get togethers, mostly idle chit chat with former players or the coaches.
The only conversation of any importance was a discussion with Larry Bird about a hard cap. He was all for it, to help small market teams like the Pacers.

I remember sometimes playing with him in some old nba2k
I remember playing him in table-top dice/card basketball games when he was actually in the league.

He was so great when started out in Philly. Mystery how that combination with the Doctor didn’t thrive, and then he was gone.
(Just stunning the was he could hold the ball with just the one hand.)

Well, they did finish first in the Eastern Conference both years they were together

It was a long time ago, but somehow I remember George disappearing against Portland. (And Darryl Dawkins trying to box, and punching Doug Collins in the head.) And he didn’t seem happy and was…smoking cigarettes? IDK, it was so long ago.

There were several games I played at one time or another - Strat-O-Matic, APBA, Statis Pro - all more or less had an offensive card and a defensive card for each player, some also had charts to refer to, and a roll of the dice determined shooting, shot results, rebounding, etc. Games would take 1-2 hours to play because of all the dice rolling.
I'm sure I still have boxes in the garage or basement of box scores I kept of these games - like Bob McAdoo and the Buffalo Braves against the George McGinnis Philadelphia 76ers (this was before Erving was there), or the Rick Barry Golden State Warriors against the Tiny Archibald Kansas City Kings.
It's amazing the dumb stuff you remember from playing these games about players most fans today most likely never heard of - like the really high steal rate of Slick Watts or the really high foul drawing rate of John Drew.
May seem antiquated by today's standards but you gotta remember that back in the 70s there was little NBA basketball on TV, and then typically only on the weekends, and our local newspaper only carried box scores for the local team. You had to buy all the NBA pre-season magazines that came out just to keep track of all the players.
What would we do without YouTube?

I played the tabletop Strat-O-Matic in the 80s. It still exists today, as both a board game and a computer game, and is still great
