Your Personal Wolves Mt. Rushmore

Post#1 » by gandlogo » Fri Dec 15, 2023 5:36 pm

I think the Mt. Rushmore thing is a bit overplayed, and yet here I am.

And apologies for the assumptions I'm going to make about other people, but it also sets up the basis of this thread. I am assuming that nearly everyone here is a Wolves fan. Those fans are of different ages, backgrounds, geography, etc. But, for whatever reason, this is the team they follow.

For anyone not familiar with the Mt. Rushmore concept, it is basically a listing of your top-four of anything. In this case, it is your top-four personal favorite Timberwolves of all time. It's your list - so no need for others to question it or debate it. Comment on it and enjoy it, but not looking for people having to defend why they like a certain player. The four Timberwolves that you simply like the best for whatever reason.

If you want your list to be the greatest (in your mind) Wolves of all time that's fine. If you want your list to be driven by best hair style of all time. Or tallest. It's your list - go nuts. I'm hoping that because people have started following the Wolves at different points in the franchise's history that the lists are varied enough that this is interesting. If not, let the thread sink into the depths of RealGM oblivion.

I like the J R Rider HM. I give Bill Curley an HM just for the laughs he used to give me and my boys.

KG
Pek
those two for certain. Others are hard.
KAT, Ant, Ricky, Love, Tony Campbell. Can only put two of them there......
Love
Ricky
HM to KAT, Ant, and Tony.

In 4 years from now, it will be KG, Ant, KAT, and Gobert.

I love Rudy. He just hasn't been around long enough. Yeah, in a couple years with an NBA title I could add Rudy. KAT and Ant are close, but I can't take Pek off. Gobert will replace Love. So it's a question of replacing Ricky and that would be hard.

In terms of most impactful Wolves of all-time, it’s pretty tough after KG. I’d go KAT at number two, then it’s trying to gage quality vs quantity. Cassell and Sprewell were huge parts of our greatest season, or players like Love and Jefferson who gave good performances during poor seasons. Or Rubio who was a great guy to cheer for. Then you have players like Ant or Gobert who could easily put themselves on the list if the Wolves have a great year. I don’t know.

Obviously KG

KAT, because he's still here and loyal
Ricky, because he was flat out fun (except for shooting)
Cassell, but is being pushed by Ant.

Two of these can change within the next two years

KG, Ant, the 2 Sams.

Cassell for being the 2nd best player on a legit contender - and he absolutely should've been All-NBA 1st team that year. He brought a swagger that the team never had before or since and helped show the league just how great KG was when he had a little help.

Mitchell for being an original Wolf, a consummate professional, a huge mentor to KG - and he's still Top 5 all-time among Wolves in total points, rebounds and steals.

My reasoning for having Pek on the list. Over the Wolves entire existence we have been, what I call punked, over and over and over. There was one brief era where we weren't and that was when one freaking all time NBA badass was on our team. Nikola Pekovic. It just felt good knowing that when Pek was playing nobody was going to mess with us.

The KG we were still punked more often than not, but it wasn't as bad then as other times.

Very well said. I'm trying to remember if Cassell was All-NBA that year. I take it by your saying he should've been that he wasn't. That brings me back to my contention that we were close to winning the championship that year. 2 of the best 5 players in the league that year turned into one at the most inopportune moment.

Yes it's speculation by me what would have happened and of course it can't be proven, but I don't think it's a stretch at all to believe we would have won it all had Cassell been available to us. To me that is coming very close.

Some people likes to read for a while before posting.

How about this list:
Isaiah Rider, Marbury, Sprewell, Ricky Davis

The greatest shooting guards KG has to endure as a Timberwolves. He finally got Ray Allen but didn't end well either.

That appears to be true. I just found it exceedingly strange that a person found giving Wiggins an endorsement was a reason to make a one in every 3 years post. There is nothing wrong with that, but it's just so unusual.

Not hard to understand. He posts as often as Wiggins really cares about basketball.

He was 2nd team.

Thanks. Was Cassell the least athletic all-NBA "type" player ever? He was less athletic than Larry Bird IMO.
