We keep saying we need a big, 2-way forward that can defend, and pass, and score... So long, Big Mac. Prayers for his family. friends, and the Pacer-nation that loved him.

Very sad. 73 not a bad number to get to though.

Say that when you're 72!
I'm 61 now and I remember Big Mac at IU when I was a kid and later with the Pacers playing at the Fairgrounds Colosseum he was an ABA beast and later still when he played in the NBA. He will be missed.

Truly an Indiana basketball legend. From George Washington High School to IU to the Pacers, he man produced at the highest levels for hometown teams.

From everything I've ever known, heard or read about George, we have lost a man who was at least as great a person as he was a ball player. Very sad, and way, way too soon.

I saw him play high school football at Washington. he dominated that sport too.
as for what is a good number, any number you've already passed isn't good.

I saw Big Mac play at IU and as a Pacer. My recollection of him was his size, versatility, athleticism, and one handed looking shot. He was one of my favorite players growing up because of his huge impact in games. My cousin taught him in a class in high school at Washington.

Re: George McGinnis Passes away at 73
I don't come here all the time, so I missed this.
I did work for him at his home for years. He was not always who I spoke to, but when I did he was awesome. He left me a key hidden outside the house for me to do my job most of the time. It's part of the reason I didn't speak to him every time, it seemed like he didn't move anymore than he had to. Was on a walker when I saw him, and clearly had back issues. I don't drink much, but the night I heard he passed I had one for him.
I am not great with putting words to emotions, but he was a great, great man in the time I spent with him that I wish I knew how to explain better. For a moment, I thought about leaving flowers and a note, in the same spot he left me a key all those years, but I decided against it. What to me felt like it could have been a meaningful tribute, if his family didn't know that was what we did, could be construed as kind of weird.

He was a great player and a lot of fun to watch, especially in the red, white and blue ball days. Sad news.
