Could trade Gordon to Utah for Olynyk + Clarkson and then trade Rozier to someone else.

Hornets are currently on pace to win like 26 games, so any argument that overhauling the roster will automatically mean they will suck kind of falls on deaf ears.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
So Cavs have entered Hornets and Heat tier of injury luck.
Think the chances they trade Mitchell and do a soft tank is high. I remember we were said to have been interested in him when he was available a few summers ago.
Not saying i want him cause he will only marginally boost our offense and not shore up our defense. Plus he would be like a 1.5 year rental.

Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

random thought... in the future simulation of the best possible series of moves to get better... what if the best sim involved trading melo for a haul and keeping terry?

I'll defend terry to the bitter end but no. Like, he's the only player we have or could ever get that could be a potential legit superstar. Miller is going to be great. Superstar level no. Lamelo can get there if his ankles weren't made out of aluminum foil.

Not including rozier in the thought process its something to ponder about 2 years from now if he keeps playing 40 to 55 games a year.

Melo is my favorite player, but it's is something I've also been thinking about. Especially if these Collier and Topic kids end up looking like franchise level point guards (doubt it, but you never know known).
Still am remaining hopeful that Melo is our Doncic and not a Zingus in New York situation .

Collier can play the 2 can't he? I only caught glimpses of that game against long Beach state which they lost. I'm all over jakobe walter right now. Great size shoots the 3 well with high volume. My tyrese proctor train hit a damn wall. Pass on that completely for now.

Do you realize what would happen to like 85% of the fanbase if the team was like "ya know what? I know we've never had a player this good since like 1997 but screw it, let's trade him and triple down on Terry Rozier". It wouldn't happen, plus it wouldn't improve us anytime soon anyway. LaMelo does everything except play great defense and draw fouls at a Shai / Trae rate. The building blocks are LaMelo and Miller and maybe Mark. You build around that core.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #5
The only way we should trade Melo is if he keeps getting injured and we need to cut our losses. That is at least 1-2 years away from being a situation we need to think about. Or he gets fed up with losing and asks for a trade.
Until that happens, Terry is the only member of the team that is an obvious trade candidate. Not counting Gordon.
Terry is several years older than the rest of our core. His contract is movable, potentially at a positive return. He doesn't fit well with Melo because he doesn't play defense.
We have tons of evidence this team isn't good, even when healthy. So we need to do something sooner or later.

While we're here, I'm at the point to where we need to just write the Twin off as well. Going on two years of zero condition change and zero news or updates.

I'd never do it, at least not until he asked out or until proven he can't stay healthy or its painfully clear you cant go far in playoffs with your best player playing no defense.
But what if...

You can only maximize a Melo trade if:
1 - he plays long enough to make people think his ankles will be OK, and at a high level.
2 - along with #1, GM and owner is convinced we need a BIG reboot.
If Melo’s ankle issues prove chronic (like his brother’s issues have…fragile family), we are beyond screwed. Huge $$$ with low return.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Your trade market is pretty much restricted then to owners who don't care about the LT and on teams where his production is more of a playoff need/RS luxury. In my mind that pretty much leaves you with
Nets, Warriors, Boston (if they really shook up the core after a PO flameout this year), Suns (same as Boston but more likely), Clippers (same as two previous)

It's a possibility way down the road, similar to what we've seen with other stars stuck in garbage situations. But that really should be the sense of urgency the front office has to build a competitive team around LaMelo. The clock has been ticking. LaMelo looks like he's on the SGA schedule and that team did a great job being patient and building through the draft, around him. We simply need to tweak the roster around him and build with LaMelo/Miller/Mark going forward. Find guys who do the things that they don't well. On-ball defense, rebounding, front court strength, experience.

Memphis is too, they should trade everyone...
I get we suck, but we have had our top 8 guys miss 48 games already this year and counting.
If you look at just 3 man lineups, not even 5 man. We don't have a single lineup in the top 150 for mins.
I don't think we are a juggernaut healthy, but if we had just average injury luck instead of bottom 3 I think we are probably closer to 11-13 and still have some healthy outlook at least until trade deadline.

Agreed with this assessment, but this was the risk Mitch took when he decided to sit out free agency two seasons in a row, not even use the MLE, and completely ignore the fact we had no depth, no backup PG and our third C was a fruit loop. This is simply unacceptable, especially when you announce to the world you're not a playoff team via osmosis and the draft.
