Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 2
I predicted Gradey for 9 min/gm average.
He is at 13 min/gm now and that will drop drop drop. I do not think Gradey gets another NBA contract. Save your money from McDonald’s and the shaving sponsorship lol

lol, it’s always funny when people make statements like this. While he’s obviously not playing well, we have to remember he’s two months into his NBA career and just turned 20.

...and to think we didn't draft Keyonte George because of Gradey Dick. No one wants to say it, but I'm sure some people have noticed: Gradey Dick comes off as being very goofy mentally. Clearly he's worked hard to be in this position and no one can take that away from him, but i already knew on draft night when I saw him in that red suit that we were getting a goofy player, who could possibly be good if he finds a way to not be so goofy. I think the Raptors knew this and drafted him for the marketing look anyway hence all the endorsements and web commercials he's in. Problem is that if his performance isn't there, no one wants to see the commercial.

The shooting is one thing, that's one thing he can improve on.
But his defence, **** is so trash.
I don't think he'll ever become even a below average defender.

lol there is no way they drafted him for that. Gradey was always seen as a top 15 pick. Keyonte George is shooting 35% and is playing for a team built to lose. He has not been a positive contributor for that team. Now, he has obviously been better than Dick but it doesn’t really matter at this point. The reality is that Keyonte has been awful.

Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 2
So far it's not looking good. He doesn't look like he belongs in the court. But he has time. He will need to make some massive changes so he doesn't look like a highschool kid who won a contest to play a game with the Raptors every time he steps on the court.
He has a good feel for the game when he's not trying to dribble, so if that jumper comes around, in today's NBA you just need to know how to shoot. It's not as hard as it used to be.

Keyonte on the Raptors & Keyonte on the Jazz are two different players. Keyonte would be a playmaker and defensive jacknife on our team. He's shown the ability to play make. He wouldn't have to take some of the bad shots he takes on the Jazz out of necessity. Hence a player that would look more poised and balanced. You're right, Jazz are built to lose and Keyonte has shot poorly, but there's a lot of things to like about how he plays the game. He's a rookie PG for crying out loud. It's the most difficult responsibility to have as a rookie. I had a feeling Raps didn't want a rookie HC and a rookie PG in the same year because the growing pains that will show, and our front office has to sell the image of competitiveness in order to justify value to season ticket holders. It would've been a better direction to develop and see what you have, while giving yourself a chance at top 6 pick in next years draft rather than being the treadmill team we are.

I actually think he has decent defensive instincts, has good anticipation, plays passing lanes well and can be disruptive with his length. His biggest issue there is he's just way too weak right now so opposing players go right through him.

Keyonte was horribly inefficient in college and we have one of the worst offenses in basketball. Keyonte is just an inefficient player at this point in his career. He’d be even worse here than in Utah.
If we drafted Keyonte he wouldn’t start here. Schroder would start. The Raptors didn’t draft Dick because of marketability and they didn’t pass on Keyonte because he’s a rookie PG. Raptors thought Dick would be the better player in the future. That could very well still happen. Time will tell.
I think we need to give up on that pick this year. It’s top 6 protected. We are going to lose it. Our pick is top 6 protected until 2026 I believe. Let’s just lose it in a bad draft and move on.

Even if you're high on Gradey, the sheer fact that he doesn't even look like a starter in the G League should be cause for concern. Will he improve ? Sure.
Is his ceiling low as hell ? Absolutely.

Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 2
I still have faith. He 100% needs more strength and reps. Only time can give that to him.
Just look at Jalen Johnson....5 mins per game as a rookie shooting 23% from 3 and 2.4pts.
Then 15 mins....28% from 3....5.6 pts
Now in year 3, took a big step up shooting over 42% from 3 and 14 pts
If you are going to draft a 19 year old, you have to know that guy is likely a longer term to contribute vs taking a 22-23 year old with multiple years under their belt in college. Keep playing him in 905 to get reps and minutes.

Jalen Johnson averaged 22/12/5 at the G League in his sleep though. Plus his frame and physical tools had that upside built into him.
Gradey doesn't have that, he's just purely a shooter that can't shoot at the moment with a non NBA body. I do think he'll figure it out but what capacity will that be ? 2 years of development just to be a bench player ?

Reality is, we don't know. No one expected Barnes to discover a good 3 pt shot this summer. If he can, then for sure someone who has a shooting background can.
Maybe he busts, maybe he becomes a Bogdonovic. We certainly could use that type of guy. All I am saying is that you don't draft a 19 year old, to then start thinking of bailing on him 20 games into his career. If he was 23/24 in a more developed body with 3-4 years of college under his belt, then yeah, I would be freaking out.
Look at the positive, he likely doesn't have a sophomore slump next year!

Do you honestly think a point guard who can’t shoot the 3 is the answer around Scottie?
We have to think long term at this point. Swing for players that make sense around Scottie and see what you end up with.

Give him time. He is young and will get stronger. Patience please. How many rookies are really doing well?

There are a lot of athletes that wear goofy suits on nba draft night. I mean it's a matter of opinion and I'm a grey beard, but yeah, I've seen some goofy/showoffy suits on draft night.

Let's playin for 9th!

I always double check when you post numbers because you are always guilty of exaggerating. He didn’t average 22 points nor did he average 5 assists. lol.
