Pritchard/Kornet/Brissett/Svi/Stevens combine for over $13M in salary. So that gets us there.

However, now there's three issues to account for on the Pistons side...

1) Even though Stewart counts as $13M+ of salary to us incoming, he still only counts at this year's salary ($5.2M) to them. So now they aren't sending out enough salary to match what we're sending back.

2) Pritchard has his own poison pill contract, so he counts not at the $4.0M of outgoing money he is to us, but $6.7M. In an dof itself, this gap isn't huge (like it is with Stewart's deal) so it's workable in most deals. But in this specific instance, it's a big challenge that compounds issue #1.

3) 5 for 1 deals are tough midseason because you need to open up the roster spots to execute the trade and most teams don't have 4 extra players they're ok cutting.

It's not impossible but it will be really, really challenging. Need to leverage a lot of open roster spots around the NBA.

The Blazers don't have any center on their roster outside of Ayton besides old friend Moses Brown who is on a non-guaranteed deal. Maybe if you throw them a 2nd round swap or something they'd waive Brown and take Kornet in via a minimum salary exception.

The Bulls have an open roster spot and not a lot of real "PF-sized" players on the roster. So maybe they'd be interested in taking Brissett for free. Also, if we're dealing Pritchard we're going to want a backup PG coming back. So maybe we can send them Pritchard and take Jevon Carter back into the Grant Williams TPE.

The Pistons could maybe release Kevin Knox to open up a roster spot to take 2 players back.

So in the end, the full deal would be...

POR gives: nothing
POR gets: C Luke Kornet, 2nd round swap

They pocket a swap of 2nds for trading backup centers after waiving Moses Brown to free up the roster spot.

CHI gives: G Jevon Carter
CHI gets: G Payton Pritchard, F Oshae Brissett, 2nd round pick(s)

They swap a backup PG for a younger one and pocket some 2nd round picks. They have the roster spot to take on an extra player.

DET gives: F/C Isaiah Stewart
DET gets: F Lamar Stevens, G/F Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, draft pick compensation from BOS (at least a 1st and multiple 2nds, maybe another 1st?)

They cut Kevin Knox to open up the extra roster spot. They move Stewart for picks.

BOS gives: G Payton Pritchard, F Lamar Stevens, G/F Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, C Luke Kornet, F Oshae Brissett, draft compensation
BOS gets: F/C Isaiah Stewart, G Jevon Carter (taken into TPE)

Since we're using the TPE on Carter, the math works here for a trade.

Nice work! Overall we get a roster upgrade, but there's a lot of players going out from the Celtics. With Celtics current record and coherency on the bench, it could disrupt the chemistry.

Nevertheless, I'd do that trade and not look back. Horford, Stewart, Hauser, Carter is a better bench 6-9, and there will be opening for an additional wing signing.

I'm pretty sure the Clippers didn't get Theis to replace Plumlee. They got Theis so they could have 2 serviceable centers on the roster. If they traded Plumlee, they'd only have 1, and they'd be right back in the same position they were in before they signed Theis..

Steph to Celts confirmed.

Joe doesn't look too happy though, maybe Steph said he'll only come if he calls timeouts?

Steph would probably like to have coach that keeps his timeouts for the end of game. Remember this gem from the playoffs:

You're right, I'm over thinking it, Joe is probably just eyeing off Steph's plate.

If the Celtics want bench help, they should play the bench players they have. I'm talking about guys like Queta, Stevens and Brissett.

Some people want to get Beef Stew and give up half the bench. I wouldn't trade him for Pritchard and Stevens. That's just me. I value Pritchard and Stevens needs a chance to play. Stewart is grabbing 6 rebounds in 30 minutes. That's pretty bad.

If we got someone like him or Caruso, jeesh, just hand the title over to us.

Yep, at least one enforcer/instigator to give the team that extra "something something" for those Butler/Adebayo/Giannis/Embiid alpha moments when you want to get them out of their comfort zone. Someone who's presence can be felt, a bit of an edge, uncertainty. Celtics really have no players like that on the roster at this point. Maybe Lamar or Queta can be that role but don't have the rep yet.

It's not the way of Brad and Joe's philosophy, but those PJ Tucker type of guys seem to come in handy in the playoffs and can shift the tide when needed.

Yeah, Stew would fit that mold perfectly for us. It's a bummer he signed that extension with Detroit - makes it much harder to get a deal done..

I agree in that it’s clear Pritchard has value, and if he’s sent out for an upgrade at another position he needs to be replaced. And I’m not entirely sure a big man would get enough minutes to make that make sense, depends on if they want a better double big combo than currently.

I think this year though Stewart is having his rebounding numbers affected by his role, he’s very sold on the boards.

Brad is not going to touch the top 8. They need stevens,, Blanton and brisset one of them, to become a fringe rotation guy.

Kornet is cheap and useful, but they can always do better.

Shipping all our minimum-salary FA signings to Detroit might not help with recruiting future years' minimum-salary FAs.

I honestly think the best move is simply someone useful with the Grant TPE, then see who's waived than we can sign for min.

While there are concerns with PP in the playoffs, I do like our roster balance.

Unlike a lot here I even like Kornet as a situational 3rd or 4th big. His counting numbers aren't great but he's smart and his length does deter offenses when he's focused. He's also excellent for the vibe and morale of the team. He, like other deep bench guys will obviously be traded if something good comes up that requires them to make way, but I'm pretty happy with it.

I also like the longer term prospect of Banton and think he's worth developing longer to see what he can become.

TLDR; I like our guys.

Apparently Isaiah Stewart is short and can’t jump, plus his comp coming out of college was Danny Fortson. Not sure I want this guy now.

Celtics are not trading PP for Stewart.
This is the latest fantasy of some Celtics about Pritchard, who has been really good this season and Stewart has just been another big on the Detroit roster not that he doesn't have talent and not that I wouldn't welcome him to Boston but I think you have to get past your critique of Pritchard

Stewart is not the target. Brad will acquire Duren with the Grant TPE. Top 6 PP Hauser Kornet will not be part of any movement.

Tillman still makes some sense. I think Joe would like to keep the option of being able to go double-big at any and all points in the playoffs so having a guy like Tillman can help accomplish that. Plus it helps your backcourt by pushing JB down to guard when they go double-big and PP becomes the 4th guard in the playoff rotation. No need to acquire a pricey guard.

Then again, how many acquisitions could we afford will bring in a player better than Stephens?
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

The Grant TPE won't get you Duren. Also, Duren is a great young player but doesn't shoot threes, so he doesn't fit Joe's and Brad's type.
