I wouldn't have a problem cutting Campbell and a few others this week.

The defense just needs a total overhaul, it won't happen during the season but once the season ends it's time to move on from the defensive coaching staff and some of the more veteran guys. Wipe the slate clean
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Remember when Campbell was held up as a "great" Gutey free agent find when he had that 1 good season 3 years ago?
Take a look at that contract and all that dead cap once he gets cut.
Just great.

Speaking of Campbell…
Sure sounds like this staff has lost player buy in.

I dont know how old you are but people said these same things about Dungy when it was time to move on from Tampa. He proceeded to get Indianapolis over the hump and win them a super bowl.
Do it for Chuck

Dungy was also a one and done five of seven times with prime Payton Manning.

It's not a shot at Tomlin at all. The point is that none of those guys were/are terrible coaches. But we all know how the fanbase here would feel about a coach who's only won a single playoff game in the last 7-years while still keeping his job. People were upset that a Super Bowl gave McCarthy 7-years of job security. Imagine if it bought him 15-years of job security like it did with Tomlin.

In this case, the player just looked like a 50-year-old man playing. They had him in terrible positions (covering Godwin), but I would not use it as an indictment on the staff that an extremely washed player coming off of injury looked very, very bad. I don't care if he's cut tomorrow or sits out his injury. A practice squad guy would be better.

I'm gonna kinda split the difference here, because I kind of agree with you guys on some of the specific critiques of these coaches, but it's almost like the NFL and all other pro sports by default have to have basically every team lose in the playoffs. Unless you have Mahomes or Brady (yeah, I get we had Rodgers) and catch a ton of breaks, everyone is going to be a choker.
I understand why coaches get canned for long periods of not getting too far in the playoffs, but you are probably searching for a needle in the haystack or just asking to be the chosen team that gets a bunch of lucky bounces when looking for a new coach. Some coaches truly suck like Joe Barry or Staley/McDaniels losing their team or whatever...but a lot of times Mike Tomlin is just as likely/more likely to succeed than the next guy we hire after sacrificing MLF to the gods because the fanbase is pissed that we (along with 30 other teams) didn't win the Super Bowl.

I think there's a very small percentage of professional coaches who will be good regardless of their players and a slightly bigger group who will suck regardless but the vast vast majority are in the middle and will look like geniuses with good players or dumb dumbs with bad players. Tomlin is in this middle group.

Come on, Tomlin is a great great coach. There's a reason he's been head coach in one place (even if that place is good at keeping coaches for a long time) for 15+ years. That's really incredible. Him and John Harbaugh and Bellicek (though he owes it all to Tom Brady, to me) are their own tier. Maybe Andy Reid and Carroll are near there too.

I don't think they can cut him this summer, cap hit is too much. Just gotta hope that he gets healthy and a new defensive coaching staff energizes him, along with knowing the strong possibility that he could get cut with a digestible cap hit the following year and not play again after multiple poor seasons.

Cap hit is going to be worse if you hold onto him. Better to take the $11ish(?) hit this year and open the money the following two seasons.

MickeyDavis wrote:MLF did make some good points yesterday about the defense. You can have the right coverage call but if the players are out of position that's on the players and coaches. As the defensive backs coach Ryan Downard is also responsible. I didn't realize we had a "Pass rush specialist" coach but we do, Jason Rebrovich. When Tommy DeVito's sack totals are 6, 5, 6, 0, 7 and the Packers are the 0, something is terribly wrong. We have 2 "defensive quality control" coaches. A defensive "senior analyst". A defensive "passing game coordinator".
Bottom line is replacing Barry is step 1 but don't promote from within and whoever the new DC is he has to be able to overhaul the coaching staff however he wants. Now maybe the coaching staff is great and it's 100% defensive talent. I doubt it. I think it' a combination of both.
The majority of our assistants on the defensive side of the ball have been employed by the Packers since Mike Pettine was firmly at the helm and some before. They never cleaned house, they just pivoted to a new head figure in Barry.

RE: Tomlin, he's a legacy. I don't want a HC who's had to relinquish his play-calling responsibilities. Surefire sign that the game has passed you by to an extent. At this point, he's there because he's an excellent manager and has set the tone for a culture.

13. GREEN BAY PACKERS (UP 1)
Projected Week 16 starters:
LT Rasheed Walker
LG Elgton Jenkins
C Josh Myers
RG Jon Runyan
RT Zach Tom
Despite the loss, the Packers' offensive line played an excellent game against the Buccaneers. The unit allowed just six pressures on 41 dropbacks and, as a result, ranked fourth in pass-blocking efficiency rating in Week 15.
Second-year left tackle Rasheed Walker played the best game of his young career. The former Penn State player surrendered just one pressure and earned an 88.7 overall grade, which led all offensive tackles in Week 15.
Best player: Zach Tom
The second-year player has earned a 79.5 PFF overall grade this season, which ranks 10th among offensive tackles.

If the Packers really did find both of their long term tackles on day 3 of the 2022 draft that would be insane.

He is very good at getting awful teams to 8 wins.
