Trading bobby is fine and I'm even ok with trading him for ddv but you need to dig up a rotational big somewhere to take his minutes.
only a fan, only an opinion

Crowder is already on the roster.jute2003 wrote:Trading bobby is fine and I'm even ok with trading him for ddv but you need to dig up a rotational big somewhere to take his minutes.
With that said I'm all for trading Bobby but not for DDV level of player. We have plenty of wings right now. Unless it's a clear upgrade to the stable we have, no reason to move on from Bobby.

I squandered an asset? Then Hammond taught me well.

I'm still pretty scared about having Brook or Bobby on the court in the playoffs.

Ideally Crowder is not a 4/5, more of a 3/4. If we don’t get a 4/5 in his place then we’re stuck with Robin playing a lot if Brook goes down, that would be a tank kind of situation.

Jae can’t play the 3. He knows where he needs to be, but his feet can’t move there.

I’d swap Bobby for DDV in a heartbeat
We need a real GM intervention on these kind of trade proposals.
Other than:
1) Bobby being a much better player than DDV and other than
2) they play two entirely different positions and other than
3) this trade would leave the Bucks with a real problem of lacking enough bigs and other than
4) one player was chosen to be on Team USA and the other will never be; this is a great proposal.
PS I like DDV and he would add more defense. He's also shooting the best of his career, but that's probably an anomaly. He's also making 12 million a year, which is too much to trade for; otherwise I'd trade Beauchamp for him.
I think the drop off of Bobby to another stretch big on a minimum deal (Kaminsky, etc.) isn’t as bad as the drop off from DDV to a wing (McKinnie) on a minimum deal. Bobby for a guy who is more valuable in the playoffs makes plenty of sense regardless of position.

Well obviously there's going to be a fair amount of Giannis at C with situational minutes for the other two.

I guess I don't see why it's so difficult to remove the sentimental and emotional attachment to Bobby even if you can acknowledge those traits ("culture guys") as having some practical value to a basketball team (and I do). It's strictly a playoff practicality issue. Backfilling those 15-20 backup frontcourt minutes shouldn't be this incredibly difficult undertaking that a lot of people seem to be suggesting it is. Like, do I wish Pat was the more tradeable/valuable asset and salary to move? Yeah, probably. Sadly that's not the case here, and that's even ignoring the fact that he's a far more proven playoff guy at this point.

I'm scared of not having them on the court in the playoffs.
The thing some posters don't understand about Bobby or Brook is that they have specialized skills that are valuable, if the coach utilizes them in the right way.
For Bobby, his strength is instant offense, having an actual big who can post up and shoot from distance and come off the bench. He's also a great rebounder. You don't get many players who can average double digit rebounds off the bench in limited playing time. He's invaluable and has been mis-utilized or under utilized by Bud in the playoffs.
What Bobby isn't is a rim protector. So what? That's not his strength. We already have two very good rim protectors.
Brook is a little different story. He can only play in a few variations of the drop defense. Depending on the team he is going against, he can be invaluable or not so valuable. He's going to have a problem against a team like Boston, since they play a lot of small ball and all their players go outside. I also think he was not used properly by Bud. He has good post-up skills that Bud never appreciated.

Bobby is a quality player, but doesn't have any of the traits Thibs wants in a center. He's not a rim protector, and he's not a roll man.

We completely understand that. We also acknowledge that other coaches can exploit their weaknesses like they have in the past to where their strengths really don't matter a whole lot.

For me no ! Losing Bobby would kill our front court depth, DDV is good but I would rather have Bobby ! Maybe Pat for DDV but that's still a wash !

DDV can’t stay healthy and I hate that he can’t finish at the rim at all. I’m not saying he should but I think Bobby will be traded by the deadline. The lack of help on the wings is too much to just stand pat and Bobby makes the most sense.

yeah, the meat and potatoes of why i dont want DDV back in Milwaukee is his injury risk. the side salad is the lack of finishing ability.
Horst is in a tough spot. He's got two guys on the roster in Beauchamp and Jackson Jr. who could theoretically be the guy we need. But there's no guarantee that either one will be ready for the spotlight come playoffs. Pat and Bobby are the most tradable players we have, but they are also very important to the locker room culture. You can care about the culture or not, but that doesn't make it any less real to the players. If you keep shipping out Bucks DNA guys, at some point we will become the Suns. A soulless team of hired guns rather than a band of brothers. Dont underestimate this factor.
I think we will probably just wait until very close to the deadline to make the call, give the youngsters time to see if one can break through, and if not then make a very very tough decision.
Glad i'm not Horst, because that's very tough. The only glimmer of hope here is the buyout market. I dont think many contenders can offer a starting spot to a 2 guard right now, so we should be the prime destination.

Right but you can have Brook and opt to play small. If you dont have Brook you can't opt to play big -- imagine going at Embiid with Bobby starting center ... then he fouls out in the 2nd qtr.. that's how life was without Brook.

I would lean towards Brook over Bobby for a few reasons but I certainly think we're going to see a lot of the same problems we did before with him at times.
Also Embiid is probably going to cook anyone we throw at him.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
Adding to that, overall if we lose in the playoffs again it's not going to be because of Brook or any other role player. In order IMO
Reasons if we end up losing b4 the finals:
1. Perimeter D
2. Giannis trying to be prime Westbrook or Harden and getting hurt
3. Khris trying to be Kobe and getting hurt
4. Bench overall not being able to hit 3s with hard closeouts
So in conclusion: if we're adding people make sure they are 3 and D quick trigger wings. Our front court is good enough.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
We needed Bobby when we had Giannis, Midds and Jrue, because you could throw Bobby the ball and he could get a bucket in the post.
We replaced Jrue with Dame. This team doesn't need more ISO scorers. They have five with Bobby, including Brook.
You can get rid of one of them and still be very good offensively in the playoffs.
