The mentality of a season being a failure just because you didn’t win the super bowl is also foolish and wrong. There are layers to success, clearly the ultimate goal is the super bowl, but it’s difficult to go from being a losing team one season, to winning the super bowl the next. Success and not winning a championship are not mutually exclusive
From year to year fine. Losing in the SB can mean that a team is progressing towards that goal.
But when evaluating two franchises history the team with more championships is the more successful.
I’m actually perplexed this is even debatable.
Winning Super Bowls is great. But I think overall consistency & winning year to year is better in the long run if you're a fan. Take the Raiders for instance, a team that has won multiple SB's, but have also been mostly terrible for a 20-year period.
I think most fans would prefer to be competitive every year.
If I had a choice between making the playoffs every year and winning just one Super Bowl vs. rarely competing and winning two, I would choose being competitive every year. Because as a fan, it sucks when your team is terrible. Really the only hope you have is the draft at that point.
