When there is even a debate, the older era player is GOAT, because the advancements in medicine, nutrition and fitness have been massive in the last two decades. Players in all sports are achieving considerably more longevity due to this. Lebron's longevity is very impressive, but part of that is due to the advancements mentioned, which Jordan didn't have to nearly the same degree.

In Inside the NBA Open Court knowing when it’s time to hang them up segment, Steve Kerr was talking about how he could only play when he was taking Vioxx and when he was off Vioxx, he couldn’t play. Realistically, there’s no way someone close to 40 would be able to play unless on something. Muscle recovery takes longer no matter how much training or nutrition he does.

But Jordan didn't even try for that longevity. He took the first retirement off, came back and retired again near his prime. Those years off he wasn't treating his body like Lebron was. And Its debatable but I don't think he was taking body care with the same seriousness Lebron has even during his playing career.

And even with advances Lebron is an outlier today in the same way guys like Karl Malone and Kareem were in their era

But why can’t everyone do it then is what I wonder. I’m supposed to belive it’s just one guy juiced up and he’s not helping gabe Vincent recover, or Anthony Davis? Why isn’t there some doctor running around selling the hooper cocktail? The only answer I can think of is that he’s been doing it longer than everyone else, or is like the captain America serum and it’s only works with his unique genetic profile.

It’s never just one guy. Look at cycling or baseball or football or WWE. I am inclined to believe there are some super treatments out there for older guys though because how the hell is the rock bigger and leaner now than when he was in the WWE and DEFINITELY taking sterioids?

Jordan’s 6 rings, DPOY, and peaks say otherwise

I’ll take Lebron’s superior peak, better all around play and longevity over Jordan’s team accomplishments and his DPOY (which LeBron should have got in 2013)

Not sure whether the other guys are on the same stuff he’s on. His name has been mentioned with BioGenesis along with some other high profile athletes. It would be nice to have a sports reporter investigate that world and report back about the laboratories and talk to their cocktail makers because it’s clear it is part of the sports world from cycling, gymnastics, sprinting, baseball. It does seem it gives an unfair advantage to those on it vs those off it.

Nah, Jordan had the better peak and is the all time leader for playoff efficiency. Jordan was never as bad as lebron in the 2011 finals. Better defender than lebron too. Winning scoring title and defensive player of the year in the same season is mental. Never missed the playoffs either when healthy

Yeah no, Jordan was never as good as LeBron was from 2013-2018. Absolute cap if you think otherwise.

Jordan was never as good as LeBron was in the 2016 finals. But sure, let’s compare two players entirely on one finals series. I also don’t believe Jordan was better defensively. If he was though, it doesn’t make up for the gap offensively where LeBron’s ability to run an offense gives him an edge.

I’m not going to back and forth on this though. I am admittingly derailing the thread. You’re welcome to have the last reply though.

All advanced stats and PER, real plus/minus favors Jordan. Double three peat won’t be repeated for a very very long time. And scoring title, mvp and finals mvp all in the same season has only happened 4 times in nba history…all by Jordan. So yeah, his peak was better than lebrons. Lebron is part of the top 2 most lopsided finals in nba history….and not in his favor either…on top of a shockingly poor 2011 finals. Lebrons lows are far worse and Jordan had the better peak too

Yeah well Ill take the guy that helped his best teammate develop into a star next to him rather then jumping some where else to play with already established stars.

Ill take the guy who accepted a system brought in by a rookie coach along with said systems owner, and helped that coach go on to be arguably the greatest coach of all time. Mr Phil Jackson.

Lebron does all these things on the court. Rebounding, passing, scoring, and playing inconsistent defense along the way. but how does that help the rest of the team have much of an identity? Its all about him, and thats why those teams fall apart when he left. with MJ the triangle offense was strong enough to keep that team winning without him. thats how a team should be.

This is a valid argument and a belief I share. If people want to argue that Jordan would have been a better player than LeBron if he had access to the same resources James has now, I can see that being a very real possibility.

But all we have to go off of is eat they actually did. LeBron has just been a better player than Jordan ever was.

Even watching Miami LeBron film the amount of wasted movement in everything he does compared to now is absolutely insane. I'm sure going back to 2015 Steph a GSW fan will say the same thing. As long as these guys can keep their bodies up to par, their brains have basically transcended and can keep them one step ahead mentally even if they're a step or two behind physically.

Really good PEDs that help with recovery and strength retention should be able to play a role as well, but no one else in the top 20 other than maybe Kobe Mike and Kareem has a work ethic like the current Old Man Trio

Then who is winning?

In the last 3 years LA has a championship and a WCF appearance. That’s about the best any team has done in 3 years, no? Nuggets have done that as well, maybe Boston? Miami hasn’t won any but 2 finals. Seems okay to me

Living in the past glory? How typical.

Last year is living in the past? Again if LA isn’t winning then who is?

Anyone has a chance I guess who isn't in the pity playoffs brackets.

Tatum and embiid are just like, “no I will not have the drugs that allow bron to be so good at 40” ? Or the drug guys don’t wanna make 8 figures treating them? Lillard getting fried by Brunson, he not trying to get some bron drugs? Everybody got money, if it’s a drug thing, it has to be something that it’s just him getting, which makes no sense from anyone’s perspective

Born in 1990 and don't even like Lebron and agree. Lebron's longevity is freaking wild. To be this dominant for so long is truly absurd. Give me that kind of lifelong production over anything else.

Yeah uh, I didn’t even really bother replying to that one, and I usually reply to any Jordan> LeBron argument. It’s hard to take retorts like these seriously.

Jordan had a double three peat, better peak, I do agree that lebron had better longevity but MJ was a better defender and scorer and better PER, #1 all time for playoffs which more GOAT like than lebron
