stan francisco wrote:Maybe I was reading too much in between the lines, sorry. He’s represented by Klutch. I’d assume that we have our eyes on him anyway, and given his surrounding talent in Atlanta, I’d be surprised if both he and his agent didn’t want him to play for the Lakers.
What is a more fair trade that you would suggest?
Atlanta gave up Gallo, a 2023 protected 1st, a 2025 unprotected 1st, a 2026 1st swap, and a 2027 unprotected first for DJM who, at the time, only had 2 years left on his deal. DJM now is under contract for 4 more seasons after this one for what many thought was less than what he was going to get. DJM and his agent can want to play for the Lakers all he wants but he isn't really in a position to force a trade with as many years as he has left. The return Atlanta would be looking is either players who could fit in and start and/or a massive pick haul.

They have a better roster than ours? 58-57 in halftime suggests we’re evenly matched. This has happened in more than one of our losses this season against the good teams; sad to say but Ham gets out coached in the second half by good coaches. It’s not just that the Celtics do this to most teams.
Hire a strategy savvy assistant for defensive in game adjustments, or something. We’re in win now mode, can’t try this again until LBJ is 49. This is no time to learn how to coach. Not on the Lakers. The Celtics ran the same play four times in a row, successfully. That’s when they left us behind.
If Ham can’t adjust and be reactive, perhaps Rob and Jeannie should adjust who our head coach is? Going to a zone for two minutes can’t be your only trick.
Who out there is available and able? It’s not a reach to say that we need a veteran coach, either added as an assistant or to replace Ham.
We need a trade or two, but maybe this is our biggest weakness…

Klay bashers have been eating crow the past 3 weeks or so and I'm not sure now that GSW now would let him go just like that and I'm also not sure if he can sustain that hot torrid shooting.
Also I'm not sure if you guys are completely ignoring that Taurean Prince has also been shooting pretty well for the month of December shooting 46.3% from 3pt area, 39.4% for the season. The problem imo is that D'Lo has given them almost nothing the past 8 games of so and that Ham have now started benching him even when he is hitting his shots and collecting assists.

One would hope that Russell is getting minutes to prove useful to other teams who suffer offensively, for ‘tradeability’ purposes. One would also hope this is why we’re hiding certain young players from view while they could obviously help on the court.
After the trade deadline let’s hope we get to see some more balanced rotations based on actual game, not trade politics. Can’t see any other logic for Ham’s odd rotations.

And that is the problem. The last 2 games he shot well and yet Ham has chosen to play him under 19 mins for both games.
I understand this team is trying to win and Darvin is trying to prioritize defense but they still allowed 6 pts more than the Celtic's pt average per game yesterday.

Re: Trade Deadline approaching - who is expendable?
To me, and I’m just a fan, it doesn’t matter how good his offense might be. At all. Playing 5 v 4 on defense will never win you any rings. His offense doesn’t tip that scale. Ask coach Malone about his tactics in the WCF. He effectively benched D Lo in that series. Then what? We’ll lose another playoffs series the same exact way if it doesn’t change. Leaving $17M sitting on the bench is not a winning tactic. He needs to be traded to a team that suffers offensively, yesterday.

As presently constructed, this team ain't gettin by Denver or Minnesota to reach the Finals. Possibly even Phoenix. Even Rui was showing hisself to the door with that performance.

Players to pursue via trade:
DeJounte Murray, Delon Wright, Brogdon, Gafford, DeRozan, Royce O’Neal. Drummond would help our bench with rebounds.
Buyout market: Hayward, Olynyk

I would love Lonnie Walker back as well! .... I think Gabe, Hayes, and a first ( or Max) for Walker and Royce ...works!
in other news....it looks like the dejounte Murray rumors are heating up with klutch sports involved. and they want reaves.
If we have to deal Reaves.... I wouldn't want less than: Murray, mouhamed, and bogs for Gabe, D'Angelo, hayes and Reaves
I'm not on board with trading reeves.... but if we have to, who are names that are worth it and are attainable? Lauri, Donovan, dejaunte, claxton (with one of our backup bigs), Caruso,.... also, Dare I say Kevin Durant?

let's talk. Kevin Durant...
will the Phoenix Suns entertain a request of his to come to us, if he asked out?
if so.... does dangelo, vando, max, reaves, Gabe (or dangelo), and first... get it done for him and Eric?
would you want to give up that much depth for such a trade, if they accepted?

Add a pick or a young prospect like Castleton if needed. On Jan 14, we can perhaps swap Reddish for Vando in that trade if that’s what they prefer.
Will the Nets do that?

Hood-Schiffino is another player I’m absolutely not trading. I think he’s our future PG. At 6’6”, built like a tank, an on-ball defender who can already compete, play-make, score but plays tough, physical defense.
I hate to give up on him too soon. Same w Christie and Lewis but think they’re both farther away from being true two-way rotation players for a championship run than Fino is.
I disagree about Max. I think he is ready right now. Ham's misusing him like just like Rui. He just needs regular minutes.
RE JHS - I'm usually not too high on unproven rooks, so might have a blind spot there. But there's also the element of 'f*ck the youth in a title window'.
*Edited my previous post to add a trade scenario
I’m down with that minus Muscala. Are you thinking it’ll entice them to pull the trigger if they get rid of his contract? Last time he played for us he was defensively inept.
I agree that Christie is good enough for the minutes he’s got, we’ll earned but mostly so on the defensive side. Two-way players is important in a ring run. He literally makes no mental mistakes on either end, something I appreciate tremendously. Just waiting to see his jump shot splash like it did in summer league. If it does or if we think it will soon, he stays. He’s a great prospect, but I’m with you on a winning now front. So far he’s been unable to hit the open midrange bunnies. He needs to grow a pair and believe in his scoring some more, be more assertive on offense. LBJ can’t wait another year to see folks develop.
I think they’re ‘hiding’ Fino and Lewis. Both are still raw. Think we’ll see more of both once the trade deadline has wrapped. Fino is the opposite of D Lo on defense. His offense also needs time, like Christie’s. But a 6’6” PG playmaker who is built tough and plays aggressive man defense? Sign me up.
For Delon I’d ‘sacrifice’ one or two of the three depending on the other pieces...
RE Muscala: I'm just curious enough to pick him up as a freebee - 42% shooter till he got to the dumpster fire that is the Washington Wizards. Its a lottery with these vet min guys - just keep buying to see what sticks. Same with Gallo tbh.
With Gabe having surgery now in almost January, it's highly unlikely he'll rehab and play this season, so this kinda out of rotation reserves is all we got to try our luck with, unless we wanna dole out picks.
RE Max, Fino, Lewis & other young prospects:
I haven't seen enough of Fino or Lewis yet to be able to comment on their potential / value. Max just feels like a bird in hand.
Darvin's been so terrible with the choice of guys he wants to give unlimited rope despite terrible spells(Gabe/TP early season >>> DLo till 2 games back, Hayes) and the others(Rui, Wood, Max, Austin) that he just doesn't respect the same way to give them a regular role/minutes to get their feet set to find some kinda rhythm. It's honestly painful to watch.
Long story to say that I believe the second list of guys have a lot more potential to contribute positively than we've seen so far.
RE Delon's value: I don't think he'll cost 2 of these guys, being like their 4th guard in terms of minutes. They're not a serious team - how can a Jordan Poole's team ever be taken seriously? Lewis being a 2nd round pick might do it with matching money.
I'll be pretty happy if we can just get Delon from them for Lewis & maybe a 2nd, and reserve the FRP/Fino/Max for a bigger fish - OG{crossed fingers}

If that gets you Clax & Royce - pull the damn trigger.
Reaves is getting exposed on defense since he played for Team USA & his defensive work ethic has taken a massive dive after the exponential increase in his profile with the Lakers. He is gonna get found out by everyone as just another one way scorer and his value will fall off a cliff like several much better scorers than him across the league. Sell now if you can get real two way talent.
His clutch shot making will be missed, but it's a tad near sighted to not take into account that we find ourselves in those clutch situations because of his, DLo & TP's lack of defensive effort through the previous 45 minutes.

Castleton is a two way. Any team that wants to pay him can just sign him and the Lakers can't do much about it. He isn't a trade asset, unless he's signed on a regular contract.

THIS ^^
An opposing coach called him out and then emasculated him throughout the series whenever Ham had the balls to try and steal some minutes for DLo.
And a lot of revisionist history is being written about him in the Warriors series too. He was almost equally embarrassed in that series barring a couple of 5 minute spells when he hit 3 threes.
You can't have a 18 mil player on the squad that's serious about winning something.

There’s no bubble to burst

Vucevic is injured. Might make it harder to get Drummond. Still, I would try something on Jan 15 when both Vando and Reaves and Rui are eligible. Until then, feel them out, start talks https://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/7931518
For that return, we’d surely have to include Reaves and/or Vincent.
DeRozan, Caruso, Drummond would improve three areas: rebounding, elite midrange scoring, point of attack defense. How far are they from rebuilding?

I was actually thinking a long the same lines.... if can get Caruso and Derozan and give up reaves and scraps .. I'm down
option 1 (with vucevic down):... gabe. hayes, and first (add max, if needed) for Caruso ..
option 2: Hayes, max, Dlo, gabe, and first for Derozan
option 3: reaves, Gabe, Dlo, Hayes.... derozan and Caruso
those option seem better than trading for Murray only. I personally think Murray is similar in value in comparison to Caruso on the Lakers. Caruso has better defense, but outstanding chemistry with LeBron. Murray is more offensively gifted.
I Also think that if we were to trade Austin Reaves.... Washington is a good option.... AR, Hayes, gabe for kuz, Gafford and delon wright.
I prefer not trading AR because that can disrupt our chemistry as drastically.
