Their spacing is also really bad.

Monty was obviously able to coach a team to the Finals in the weakest Western Conference in the last 20 years - my point being he's obviously competent - but I'm not sold on him as a mentor for a rebuild.

Not that he's setting the world ablaze in Portland, but the Ayton situation in Phoenix was a bit concerning. Monty's not a Thibs personality who rallies the troops. Not a good match for where Detroit are personnel-wise.

don't forget monty also had beef with jae crowder too. i been saying this dude been a fraud for a min.

Monty now holds the record for most losses in a row. How do we feel about that?

In a few years we''ll learn if its the coach or the players. Sometimes its the players/roster construction that's terrible like that Fizdale season he was fired with us. Cade and Bojan might be their only decent talent.

So far "Toolsy" hasn't gotten them too far ...they need a generational prospect.

Watch them overtake us in three years‘ time.

I doubt that.

Oh absolutely.

I was just throwing melo the alley for him to dunk on Monty

I don't think the coach is solely to blame here. Their roster is atrocious, and they have thrust their #1 pick in a role that he cannot carry (not yet anyway), without any veteran to steer the ship as a decision-maker/ball-handler.

I think Monty's a competent NBA coach but I don't know that he was the right coach for this project. At the very least, he was no savior. But he and the players are definitely paying the price for massive roster construction issues.

It doesn't help that my man MJ is super washed

Our pick situation is way better than Detroit's. Hell, we even have their second rounder this year and a protected first from them.

Something just occurred to me. They might have an Isiah/Larry Brown situation. Coach only signed on for MASSIVE money and is doing all sorts of funky roster maneuvers. He's telling the owner that the roster sucks.

When you have that losing vibe it can be tough to change the culture. We have been there many times. That’s what I appreciate the most about Thibs no matter what happens from here. Have to give him credit for helping to change that here

Monty is probably at a loss as to why he hasn't been fired yet. Looks like Detroit's front office wants him to earn that guaranteed bag one way or another.

The FO has to take accountability for this mess.

I don't think Monty's the right coach for this project, but he has proven that he can take good personnel to the Finals, so this ain't just about him.

Their roster just isn't good. They drafted two players high in the draft with overlapping skill sets, and neither seems anywhere near ready to conduct an offense. They have a couple solid vets but they're finishers and dependent on the decision-making of these young players. They need to bring in a vet guard to move Cade off-ball more, and Ivey to the bench until (if ever) he's ready to take the reigns. It's a debacle except for their draft odds, which are more volatile than ever and may not result in a blue-chipper.

Tanking can go either way and this is definitely the ugly side of it when poor execution and poor luck coincide.

Brunson is not the difference between us being a playoff team and way worse than the worst team ever. Don't be silly.

Regarding the tank question. There is a time to compete. A time to tank. A time to make trades. A time to draft. Turn turn turn. It's not our time to tank anymore.
