So with Embiid MIA, it seems like the lead in the MVP race is going to come down to the Thunder/Nuggets game tomorrow. The 2 top guys in the MVP race going head-to-head. If SGA can beat the Nuggets again, he’s the guy. With Jokic heating up though, he can easily re-take his throne. Exciting!

I'd take SGA over Jokic at this point if we're being honest. He's leading a worse roster to essentially the same record, while having already beat the Nuggets in Denver a few weeks ago. If Jokic and the Nuggets win convincingly tomorrow and Jokic has a massive game, maybe that goes back to even. But Embiid is still #1 right now, unless he keeps missing a lot of games.

With those two guys removed, I think I'd take OKC's roster over Denver's tbh. Chet's been fantastic, Williams, Dort...Giddey. It's at least debatable.

You think the Nuggets have a better roster? I strongly disagree. OKC has the deepest roster in the NBA, and I don't think it's that close to be honest. If you would put Jokic instead of SGA on that roster, I truly think they are world beaters. Yes, they are young, but they are so versatile and talented, much more talented than the Nuggets roster.

Another game missed. He needs to fall down the mvp ranking now. Other guys are playing so they should be rewarded. Jokic was penalized when he was missing games at the end of last season.

Allow me to rephrase: Joel Embiid (facing team above .500) ruled out for Friday.

Embiid has never been mediocre. Again, there is no objective analysis in this thread at all. It’s not even proper discussion.

Is Embiid compared to average NBA players, or is he compared to MVPs (All time greats)?

If he's compared to average NBA players, I agree, he's never been mediocre.

If he's compared to his PEERS (NBA MVPs), he has had a whole lotta mediocre playoff performances.

Yes, I meant mediocre in the context of all time greats. Best players of all time vs someone who will never be mentioned after his career ends

Like, for example, imagine Lebron not getting the 2013 MVP because Carmelo Anthony was whining and launched a media campaign. That would look ridiculous today, the same as the 2023 MVP will look ridiculous to people in 10 or 20 years.

he then play the next two vs Bulls, 2 blowouts to padd more his mvp statline

btw he missed 6 games.

he only have played equal or more than 65 games in last 2 seasons, and it was barely 66 and 68.

in 2024 he only can miss 11 games more.

OKC is more deep, but Nuggets starting 5 is top 1-2 only Celtics are rivals.

They still need a 6th man to repeat.

Giddey is not a noteworthy NBA player at this point. Dort is a fine player but nothing more. OKC is a bit deeper but I take the Nuggets top 4 outside of their superstars (health assumed). Murray, KCP, MPJ and Gordon are a lot more proven than what OKC sans SGA has to offer. Next year the answer might be different due to player development, though.

You can't argue without arguments. Who deserved the MVP if he didn't as a 6th seed?

There are so many arguments that Jokic deserved the MVP last year, and literally none for Embiid.

Nothing can change the things that happened, but we should prevent such things from happening again.

Giannis or Embiid deserved it over Jokic that year, you serious? Lmao.

And buddy, you are a Realgm armchair analyst. Your argument doesn’t matter, the voters voted. You keep on crying about something that is set in stone. There should actually be bans on this subject because half of this discussion is people discussing last year like they can change it.

And nothing’s going to prevent controversial MVPs from happening LMAO. You think people care about YOUR arguments and that’s the problem.

Nash over Kobe was controversial
Kobe over CP3 was controversial
Russ over Harden was controversial
Even Giannis over Harden is controversial to many folks
Rose over Bron was controversial

It doesn’t matter, none of y’all are voters. There will continue to be controversial MVP picks. That’s part of the game. The fact of the matter is that JOKIC LOSTTTTTTTTTTTT. END OF DISCUSSION. I DONT CARE WHAT STAT YOU BRING UP, HE L O S T.

If Jokic ends up as a top 5 player ever, people will look into the history and wonder why during his peak with Finals MVP and all time great regular season, he did not get the MVP. Otherwise, an MVP without the chips would not lift players to ATGs

Jokic lost the mvp last year on purpose i think to take pressure off and focus on playoffs (and it paid off)in the last month he coasted and misses games, he even has worst record vs sixers when all year was the opposite

despite missing games he played 3 more than embiid  , but he lost his 3rd mvp by himself, if he wanted it he would win it by miles

Nuggets finish 7-10

76ers 13-6

that count

in a mvp race you cant quit the last month

You can’t “quit” in the last month but you can duck as many games as you want during the season?

Ok so he is insane?!

To me the best player normally can beat you at your game, his game, their game and any game-

Jokic can put up a ton of shots and be effective - put up nearly no shots and be effective and can put up a few shots and be effective- kinda like dealers choice and will be the best guy on earth in any of those scenarios.

I don’t think anyone else in the top ten could do that -

I guess Giannis could by definition by being a great rebounder, selective scorer and facilitator.

But if he has the ball in crunch time he is a liability because of foul shooting

Luka needs to score - you not gonna see Luka with 6 shots controlling the game - he might take 6 shots in a row.

Embiid takes a ton of shots too.

Sga could play defense and play off the ball- but ultimately he is the primary scorer too

Jokic is pretty much the best version of draymond offensively possible - a point center that facilitates first but can shoot a high percentage from everywhere and will take the clutch shot or make the right pass - and much bigger -

Jokic a take on the best player - starts with Embiid but then it’s just who ever you like

Embiid sprained his ankle in the last game he played. He stayed in longer than he should to secure the win. You could argue that it would have been smarter for him to exit that game immediately, because the odds were he would miss less games if he didn’t keep playing on the sprain, which would have benefitted the team more. But pumped up with adrenaline and the emotions of competing in the moment, the mistake was understandable. And Nurse ain’t going to step in heavy handed considering the team is for sure going to secure a playoff spot and maintaining the good vibes is more important.

Imagine that Doncic can use this kind of jumpshot if the situation is calling for it.

I don’t get it-

What did Luka do there that he as MVP worthy?

You know - better than the almighty Jokic - the best currently Embiid or the best over time Giannis?

Just confused at the randomness of posting Luka making a J? Dude makes 10-20 of these a night on step backs over defenders trying their hardest and praying to god that he misses and you posted a uncontested warmup J

Make that make sense bro
