while team success hasn't been great the past few years, he won us a chip (which that alone makes him a great exec) and absolutely nailed the scottie pick when everyone expected suggs.

OG rarely ever gets blame for losses. Dude is overrated, anyone paying him more than 30 million a year will be getting a bad contract.

we'll complain next year if we don't match someone's max offer to OG.

In conclusion, we'll complain next year.

I'm a huge OG fan but I don't think he's getting the max at this rate. His D has really fallen off significantly since the start of the year and he hasn't taken a jump offensively to make up for it. I think he probably gets around somewhere in the 35 million range if this is where his play levels off at.

Pascal needs to be extended. Both OG and Trent need to be packaged asap....

I doubt that very much. There aren't any teams I can think of that have that much of a need for a PG.

I think short of a Maxey/Haliburton style breakout, we'll be paying a max of about $25M.

I liked og as a role player and from the beginning of time pegged him as a 3 and d guy when everyone kept calling him a potential kawhi. It was obvious how limited his ceiling was with awkward footwork and lack of handle… that being said I liked him but said in the other thread that he was the one to go instead of siakam… he’s been very overrated based on his expectations and hype… he’ll be a great role player on a contender

It ended up exactly as I figured. They both had to go yesterday. Feels refreshing. Let's lose games with a young and upcoming bunch.

I think there is 0 chance of this happening before this season's trade deadline.
Here is why:

If Masai trades either Pascal Siakam or OG, he risks this team falling apart to the bottom of the standings. However, not deep enough, because as long as Scottie is here we won't out-lose the real tanking teams like Det, Was, Cha, SA, Portland. With Chi and Utah likely to join the tankathon, chances are we end up 6th/7th worst after trading off Pascal Siakam or OG, which has the risk of ping pong balls propelling team(s) up the lottery and pushing our 2024 FRP to the 7th/8th and deliver a high lottery pick to the Spurs after a horrendous bottom 6/7 record.

That is job threatening for a GM / President.

What do you think Masai is going to choose:
1) Chugging along with a 35-40 wins season, delivering a 2024 FRP 10-15 range to the Spurs and attempt re-signing both Pascal Siakam and OG in the offseason? This way Masai can proclaim, this has been a rebuilding season (excusing the poor record), and a 2024 FRP 10-15 is worth Poeltl (possibly)

or

2) Trade Pascal Siakam or/and OG for a future core of young players / FRPs, better aligned with Scottie's timeline, tank this year to bottom 4th record to have a high probability of retaining the 2024 FRP in a supposedly weak draft? Doing this and risking being fired (or placed on the hot seat) over the optics of a bottom 6th/7th record but without a lottery pick (conveyed to Spurs for a center who cannot see the floor to finish games)?

Given Masai's history of inaction and kicking the can down the road (aka "evaluate") it's abundantly clear he will choose option 1) and not trade Pascal Siakam or OG. Additionally, considering Masai's emotional attachment to his own drafted players, he will not trade them.

Pascal Siakam or OG will be back on new long term contracts in 2024/2025, unless either of them pulls another FVV and leaves. You can bookmark this prediction (NinjaBro!).

The second path is what I think he's going to choose. I think if he can get TM3 (NOP), Keegan Murray (SAC) or Dejounte Murray (ATL) - heck, maybe even Jaden Ivey (DET) then it makes it easy in terms of optics. I for one would be fine with a play in team if we get one or more of those players. However, I don't think we would be a play-in team if we got them.

I think you're overstating how crappy our team is. As we've stated ad nauseam, we are missing shooting/shot creation from the guard spot and depth. A trade where we're moving the best player for high-upside youth + depth can be easily rationalized. Jak and his contract given the upcoming cap bump are totally fine. It's not about Jak it's about having one more floor spacer and a bench. There are many ways the FO can achieve this and I for one feel way comfier about them winning a trade than I do about them signing a free agent.

This aged well.
I believe in Masai.
