well, last playoffs he was very good but the same limitations were there, just the Denver switching defense with Gordon at center was working great.

Well, the fact that he led non-Jokic lineups to a 114 ORTG in the postseason last year is impressive considering these were generally defensively slanted lineups during the non-Jokic/Jamal-on minutes

well, those lineups had at least 3 of the other starters + Brown, with Green and Braun playing limited minutes.
An actual all NBA level guard I suspect could have done better than that.

No? The most prevalent lineup was Murray, Brown, Braun, Green, and Gordon -- so only 1 other starter. Granted, this is a sort of small-ball lineup, but these are not players I would consider great offensively. The other starters, MPJ and KCP, played not even 1/3rd of these non-Jokic/Jamal-on minutes

That’s hating lol

Last playoffs:
Jamal + Jokic = 123 off rtg, 111 def rtg
Jamal no Jokic 114 off rtg, 111 def rtg
Jokic, no jamal 111 off rtg, 117 def rtg

Don’t understand what point you’re trying to make here, murray isn’t that good in the RS and hit a mode in the playoffs, yes, its valid to say he benefits from having a good pick and roll partner in Jokic so they can’t trap him although I don’t even think he’s struggled vs those coverages and I know in the bubble he was faaar better at playmaking out of aggressive coverages than lillard, but that absolutely goes both ways and no ones gameplan is to help off murray to guard Jokic or vice versa, people that go beyond that and talk about gameplans and being the focus of gameplans don’t understand how adjustments and gameplans go, it’s by actions. In pick and rolls Murray is good enough that you aren’t going to run a coverage that lets him go wild to not let Jokic get possessions (and the type of bigs that cause those situations are more hard roll lobtypes), and murray is able to playmake out of aggressive coverages and string out soft hedges and force switches for him or Jokic to attack better than most of the elite ball handlers in the nba.

They compliment each other and Jokic is the best in the league while murray doesn’t hit that genuine star level till the playoffs, but we don’t need to start acting like he’s mid and a product of Jokic’s play beyond not being able to do it like that in the RS this far and probably not being able to lead a top tier offense all by himself if you don’t have well fitting pieces around him, whatever that entails

Murray wasn't a Top 10 guard in the Regular Season.

Curry
Haliburton
Lillard
Trae
Ja
Luka
SGA
Mitchell
Booker
Fox
Garland

Then you also have guys like Harden, Holiday, Bane and Kyrie who have some arguments.

Brunson?

Yeah he was likely better in the Regular Season last year as well.

Tier I: Luka, SGA, Steph, Dame, Booker
Tier II: Mitchell, Brunson, Murray, Jrue, LeBron
Tier III: Garland, Ja, Harden, Halliburton
Tier IV: Fox, Beal, Caruso, Van Vleet, Trae

Maybe he needs to get it done in the playoffs first? He's one of the ones with a shaky playoff resume.

Curry .190
Murray .163
Brunson .156
Edwards .143
Doncic .141
Morant .130
Lillard .114
Booker .113

SGA .096
Mitchell .094
Fox .092
Young .057
Garland .056

Obviously I wouldn't look to rank these guys primarily on this list, but Murray's off to a pretty huge star as a playoff performer.

I agree with this comparison. The playstyles aren't exact matches but he's like a super Jamal Crawford/Lou Williams/Jason Terry type guy who may not be as good and complete as other all-stars, but on any given night can outplay your team's All-Star. At the same time, switch him with Cade Cunningham and I don't think he'd be much of a floor raiser compared to some other guards in the league.

Depends on the Murray you’re talking about. Regular Season Jamal Murray is unfocused and unaggressive.

Playoff Jamal Murray is an entirely different player on both ends.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. From decent starter to fringe MVP against better competition, with focused schemes to take him out of rhythm. It’s an absurd step up in play.

Some people need higher stakes to get fired up. I think its a combination of that and injuries.
