I'll like this a lot more for Toronto than I initially do if they can make a follow up move with Siakam to get some more young talent and draft picks. They are probably going to love IQ immediately just because their guard play has been terrible, but he could also quickly drive up his price tag.

OG doesnt really make the knicks THAT much better.

its fine if they wanted to get rid of barrett, but theyre going to sign OG to some massive contract now, and set their ceiling as a middling playoff team for the next 5 years.

doesnt make any sense for toronto unless they couldnt find any draft capital for OG period, because obviously this trade doesnt make them better. what are they even doing?

He hasn't been anything special the past few years so I don't blame people for thinking he won't move the needle much for NYK but I have a feeling the change of scenery is going to do OG a lot of good. Being on the most blatant treadmill team and being part of trade rumors every offseason/deadline can't help.

Love this move for NY and LOL at Toronto after they were reportedly looking for a superstar return this past offseason.

NY probably doesn't move their needle that much but they're definitely a tough out.

I mean IQ is a great fit on the post-FVV Raptors.

And who knows how good the packages of picks they were offered were.

If it weren’t for Masai posturing about OG’s value so long — and letting FVV walk to show he was willing to do it — this deal wouldn’t be surprising at all.

I think he’s an upgrade over RJ and IQ. But agree in the sense that it doesn’t change their outlook that much in terms of the EC’s pecking order.

If I'm a Sixers or Heat fan I'm pretty pissed that my front office wouldn't pony up stuff to beat that Knicks offer. Maybe Masai was just zeroed in on Quickley though so who knows.

If the Knicks believed they were the 2nd best team in the East behind Miami then this deal makes a lot of sense because it gives them a top-end defender to put on Butler. But if they believe that they've lost their minds

Its hard to see how Philly could've gotten their because other than Maxey they don't have any good young players and Toronto seems to have wanted that more than the expiring + picks package that Philly could've given. Miami probably could've gotten their, but it probably would've needed to be Herro + Jacquez to guarantee it, maybe if Toronto really likes Herro they could've done Jovic instead but that's a big maybe.

I guess the trade depends on perspective. Thibs didn't seem to know what he had in Quickley so the Knicks are trading a 6th man and an expensive walking 3rd option placeholder for an excellent forward who can guard a bunch of positions.

On the Toronto side, they get a guy who could do a Maxey bust out but have to waste salary on Barrett for a bit. At least he's Canadian I guess?

Knicks retain all their firsts to take another swing at a big name who comes available.

Raptors similarly have decisions to make on Siakim and GTJ.

Legitimately don't understand this "it doesn't make them a Top-3 team in the East so what's the point?" attitude. So like, they shouldn't go out and acquire awesome 26-year old 3&D guys? They gave up two dudes who probably weren't even a part of their future and zero first round picks. If there's already a handshake agreement on an extension in place, this is an absolute home run for the Knicks.

Why would they be worrying about Miami? Beyond that, OG is a great defender against basically any matchup.
