For as bad as he is from 3, he's even worse from 2-point range.
He's just horrible all around in terms of efficiency, besides at the line.
RJ should be coming off the bench playing against back-ups and pushing the ball in transition. He's good at that. But he's obviously not a good jumpshooter (and that's despite being generally left open), he still doesn't have a reliable pull-up, he's not good in catch-and-shoot situations, he's not efficient running the PNR, he's obviously dreadful in transition. It's a horror show.
His 2pt% the last 2 years is 49%. What if he maintains that, hits 80 from the line, and somehow generates more free throws? WHERE WILL YOUR TS% GOD BE THEN, CHANEL? WHAT THEN? PS. put some respect on Shai's name.
Well his 2P% of .495 last year was by far his career best and it still ranked 10th worst among the 61 players who averaged more than 9 2FGAs.
Among the 50 players who averaged more than 9 2FGAs and 2 3FGAs (basically filtering out centers), he had the 6th worst 3P%. So the issue is that his 3-point shooting didn't (and doesn't) make up for his 2-point shooting and vice versa.
For RJ to go to the line more often he will have to become a better finisher around the rim. Or develop a reliable floater. Defenders are fine with contesting without fouling him because the value of the attempts just isn't that damaging.
He had the 6th-lowest FG% from less than 5 feet among the 53 players averaging more than 5 FGAs from that area last year. This year, he's third-worst among 59 players.
Everywhere you look at, he ranks basically at the bottom of the league in efficiency from the field (besides at the line and in transition).
