Re: Official Immanuel Quickley Thread
Finally got a core quality young scoring guard, and this guy isn't a defensive liability like most of his comparables are. Complements Scottie absolutely perfectly.
We had to take RJ's contract to make it happen but that's something we can fix later. Getting a player like Quickley at any cost was a priority.
I'd lean towards keeping Siakam now, unless we can get a Quickley-calibre young forward back jn a deal for him.

He’s done magic before with Bargnani, but I’m not sure anyone will be willing to take on an 80m albatross who’s a glorified garbage man around here.

Knicks trading Quickley to Raps will be the 2020s version of "Dolan vetoes Lowry trade".
Here's hoping this is the start of another era of winning.

Two excellent franchise building blocks with IQ and Scottie. Now time to identify and pair them with good 2-way complimentary pieces.
Scottie and Quickley.....younger Jokic/Murray??
Lets hope.

Really surprised by the reaction here. I really hate this deal. You shouldn’t have to give up OG and take on RJ’s contract just to have the pleasure of paying a combo guard $25m+ a year. On top of that, we threw in Precious.
This is a bad deal. How is OG untouchable in a Dame trade but not in a deal for IQ?

I think there's a decent chance Quickley is the best player in the deal. Masai overrated OG, and held onto him too long. It was obvious he wanted out two years ago, and then last year he changed agents to align himself with the Knicks. Masai did well to get rid of someone that didn't want to be here and bring back something immediately useful for him. So, yeah, in terms of what Masai could have gotten for him two years ago and potentially right before training camp, it's not as much, but on paper this is good value. Precious is a negative asset, I don't know why you think he adds to what the Knicks were getting back. He was straight crap for the last 1.5 years. Flynn as well. If they find roles there, good on them, but they weren't going to find success here.
RJ is 23. HIs contract is manageable and he eats minutes. He may eventually migrate to the bench, or iron out his 3PTer and become more efficient, but I doubt he'll get worse. This team needs guys that can shoot and handle, and they got two ballhandlers and one good shooter for a guy that wasn't committed.

Don’t know why some are concerned if he makes 27-29 mil. Cap is rising, we are Toronto we have to overpay regardless, and if we paying him that much he probably fills a need.
It is not like Poeltl is money well spent either. He only plays 26 minutes a night with virtually no competition on the team for center position @ 20 mil.

There are a bunch of positives -
- Barrett by himself replaces what OG has been providing offensively. He is not a big-time defender like OG but he is 3 years younger and locked into a contract. He can hopefully learn to shoot better just like Barnes did, assuming his shot is not broken. If he does then he will easily be a better offensive threat than OG would ever be
- Quickley could very well blow up if given a starting role which is supported by his good efficiency and the chances he has had in the past. He is a victim of circumstance in that the veteran Brunson is flat-out balling, looks like a star and it's difficult to play those two small guys together
- Quickley is a fantastic shooter catching off the ball or pulling up in transition, and can happily run off screens and play off Barnes as the starting point guard if that's the direction we're taking. He can also play on ball and flat out beat people into the paint if we want to give him the reigns when he's hot. We've not had a player like this for awhile. On another team maybe he's a 6th man because he's a combo guard, but for us it's exactly what we need considering how we want to use Barnes
- Quickley should fit right in offensively for the above reasons and also because he absolutely feasts on the break where Barnes and pretty much our entire roster love to get out and run
- Looks like OG had no intention to stay unless we paid him a max or close to max contract. Is he really that guy? He misses a lot of time with injury and is not versatile offensively. Let the Knicks overpay him. He is not a superstar
- We're getting a lot younger and obviously picking a direction which should be celebration in itself

Yeah I don't get how both you and Humbleren called him Isaiah at different points this season. Seems quite the coincidence.

Are you clueless? One is 23 for starters, the other one is past expiry date...

The Raptors should have given them OG and a pick for Barrett? What is that guy smoking? He seems to be getting worse as the years go on.

Quickley is a breakout player....he's going to be averaging 20/5/5 soon enough and that will be nice paired with Barnes.

Super 3xcited about this player on Raptors... could be best ever pg in franchise history... now, we need the right return for Pascal. Then look to trade Trent and Purtle.

Value wise, I'm with you on the exchange. Precious and the second are about the same value swap at this point, with the big bonus being that we may not even have money to pay him this offseason. I'll take that swap as we just need more cost controlled assets and the pick provides that.
RJ is a negative, or at best neutral value. The FO likely sees him as a hidden asset and likely valued him over other competing teams salary filler (I don't) and potential picks.
This is very much the Norm/Trent trade all over. No salary/cap advantage, banking on the talent ending up better in the long run, while going a bit younger. We lost out on that bet with Norm.

And you listen to him yesterday and he is down on RJ talking about him like he's just some bench player. People give sports analysts way too much credit.

Poeltl is far from an albatross contract come on man.
