Ive been to Rome, I stayed in Testaccio which I enjoyed as being just far enough away from the main tourist sites to get a more local vibe but close enough to not be a pain. Book Vatican and Colosseum tours ahead of time. The good tour for the Colosseum book out early and without it you dont get access to the very top or the very bottom. Food wise, try to get out of the main area for dinner once or twice. I took a train to what youd call the burbs and had amazing food. Food in general was really good if you stay away form the typical places trying to hustle in tourists.

Second the tour suggestions. A good tour guide should get you the proper versions.

Enjoy the steak in Florence.

When in Rome, go to Trastevere neighborhood one evening and get a sandwich at Trapizzino.

3rd supporting booking a tour for the Coliseum. Lines are crazy and if you are going to Rome you might as well do it right.

If you happen to be Catholic and know any jesuits, see if they have a connections. My favorite time in Rome was visiting a old fraternity brother who gave a tour of the jesuits area with great views of the city. Second favorite experience was just walking around with a few bottles of wine at night and chilling at the Spanish steps. (no idea of the legality of it) nothing better than seeing beautiful buildings and statues lit up at night slightly buzzed. Some people like food but I like exploring. Listen to the Mike Duncan audiobook/podcast to gain an appreciation of the various sites.

Going to Florence and Atrani with wife and 2 kids in August. Wife study abroad their 15 years ago and found a Hyatt points sweet/suite spot. Hoping to survive the heat before five nights at the beach.

I work for a developer in construction and our building standard is to have all major appliances and HVAC equipment on dedicated circuits. I'll say, that's a hefty load to have on (1) circuit. Do you find it trips often? You'll need to ensure you have enough room on your panel to add circuits, then you will need to run all new wires to your receptacles, which can also get incredibly pricey. Good luck!

I should be more clear. This is a new house and I think it's fine. I don't think I articulated it well. Once I looked at the panel - the furnace is on its own circuit, AC is on its own circuit. Sump pump is on its own. This is fine.

I think the one in question is labeled "basement mech" and has the softener (doesn't drain much), water heater (it's gas but I think that draws a pretty large amount when running), and maybe the humidifier/air system seems like it may be attached. It's hard to tell but I could test it out. I also believe this one runs to a few outlets where I have a basement TV/my laptop is plugged in for my basement office, and the treadmill also was and was causing issues.

Someday (but not yet) we'll have the basement finished, so yeah, having an electrician come out and give me one more dedicated circuit would suck if it's expensive they're going to be back in 3 years when we finish the basement.

Two things,
1. I built a house 6 years ago and had to replace three or four fuses because they were cheap and malfunctioning
2. Anyone that has a treadmill, make sure you are waxing the deck every so often. If you don’t and the belt is too tight it puts enormous strain on the motor

Yeah...I was lubing it pretty often. I think it's the power issue and I got a refund. I am just going to roll with a stationary bike for now.

I'm likely going this summer and the friend that knows his stuff also recommended this area to us.

Thanks for all the Italy suggestions! Planning for England with Celiac was pretty easy and I ate and felt amazing the whole time, but I’ve been more nervous for Italy. We aren’t spending any nights in the actual Tuscan countryside for example because food options have been so rough to figure out.

But EU does have great regulations around dietary restrictions - way better than the US which has virtually zero - so I think I just need to find the right restaurants in the cities and I’ll be fine. I’ll check out the suggested areas and see if I can find good things there. Travel blogs are helpful but tend to parrot the same things over and over (maybe for good reason).

Appreciate the tip on the coliseum! Seeing those extra areas would be great. We’re also doing a tour of the Duomo in Florence for the same reason.

We’re doing a Chianti and cheese day tour from Florence, doing a museum day to see David’s and some art. Planning for an open day in each city so we can just walk and explore all day too.

I know less about Rome because the trip started as just a Tuscan vaca, but we figured when (near) Rome we might as well.

As much as I love cooking, I think I would pay a good ass amount to never have to season another pan. This weekend I'm seasoning two aluminum cake pans for the sake of pizza making, and it's an awful experience.

This won't get you out of seasoning, but have you considered cast iron for making pizza? I've made a lot of pizza- flat and deep dish, round and rectangular, and love what cast iron does to the crust.

I make deep dish just about never, so I'm going with the recipe and method found here.

Funny thing is I have a bunch of cast iron, some really nice vintage stuff too, that I went through the trouble of salvaging and seasoning over a two week period last summer.

There's so many ways of making great pizza. I use an overnight Lahey recipe for the dough, which gives great flavor and texture. Once you have the right crust you can do all sorts of things.

Making pizza is a noble pursuit.

Anyone have any experience with in-home saunas? I've been wanting a steam sauna for a while now and I've been looking at this one. Would just need to hire an electrician to get it wired for 220v. I would really prefer steam over IR, but curious if others have had experience?

For what its worth, I love saunas. There are tons of health benefits and I have no doubt I'd use it 3-6 times a week.

You see the recent Matty Matheson video on deep dish?

I did, but I wanted an excuse to make me some Pequad style pizza pans instead of the pop out kind he used.

I'm into what's probably hour 10 of seasoning. Not gonna lie, the apartment doesn't smell awesome right now. Like, I think I'm feeling the fumes in my eyeballs.

I actually went to see Back to the Future with the symphony orchestra playing today....

Flying cars indeed.
