Ian Scuffling wrote:Hey zimpy, or anyone else for that matter. Where do you find pipm and epm data? Also, general question to the group, what are the better metrics to measure defensive impact? Is there a gold standard? Or are there a few pretty good metrics that paint a truthful picture. Been seeing a few people dogging James' defense lately on other sites. I don't get to see as many games as I'd like, but I would assume, due to mileage and age, that he could be slipping defensively. But, hearing "eye test" from the people questiong his defensive effort, I tend to not believe. LOL...Thank you in advance.

PIPM goes back to 2009.

Based on PIPM LeBrons 4-year peak happened from 2009-10 to 2012-13 season

Thank you very much to both colbinii and zimpy27. I appreciate it. So, question regarding the LEBRON stat. I didn't see a "Career" LEBRON leaderboard. I saw "best" individual seasons, but nothing regarding the career leaders in LEBRON? Am I just missing it? I did see in the FAQ portion that they say that Lebron is the career leader in LEBRON, but that's it. Thanks again.

Both sites allow you to pay to access more data.. I just don't.

This is not the place for an extended discussion, nor is our “no politics” Off-Topic Thread, but that is a disingenuous reframing of the sentiment.

I don't think the data being public has anything to do with Capitalism.

Historical LEBRON data is public, 23-24 isn’t updated on the site yet but it’s there internally

Multi year LEBRON data isn’t available on any subscription, “career” LEBRON data isn’t a thing they probably just averaged it

Multi year data is internal to them, maybe teams get it since they’re a consulting group at the end of the day but that’s it

He is the career leader but I think that’s something they have internally, it’s not available on any subscription

I'm definitely doing this deal I think

If the Lakers are offered this, take it and run.
But of course, Bulls won’t offer this, and secondly, Pelinka would decline and ask for 4 1sts for Rui alone.

LEBRON doesn’t have career data but it’s probably the best all in one and better than EPM on defense imo, it tends to rate bigs higher but I’ve heard the current iteration does the best in testing overall

Lebrons defense is generally solid impact because he still reads plays and gets good stops but he’s stupid lazy and some games it’s horrible

I don't think Jeannie wants to take back so much guaranteed money. I think they would target players in the 15-20M range

Is it laziness or energy conservation?

Gotta wonder what's going through LeBron's mind right now. Does he think he can win another ring? Lakers are nowhere near good enough right now. I do want him to get a 5th ring (and a 2nd with the Lakers) but chances look bleak unless they make a major move this offseason or trade deadline.

Is his only goal now to play with his son? And/or to hit 40k points?

It’s the same thing lol

He’s conserving energy on that end by being lazy, it’s not inherently wrong till playoffs but it still stands out at times

There’s a difference between being lazy and being efficient. Lazy means you have the capacity and lack the will to lean on it. That’s not LeBron on the court generally speaking.

The sad thing is the last two seasons were winnable if they just made marginal improvements on the roster (say they just brought back KCP, Caruso, Kuz, Schroeder, Drummond/Javale, Matthews, and still hit on Reaves and/or Monk).

2022 was really a joke of a field. No Jamal Murray, no Kawhi/PG, KD in the East on a dysfunctional team, etc. Warriors weren't that great of a team but their comp in the West were a bunch of paper tigers like the Jazz, Grizzlies, Suns, and Mavs. 2023 was also relatively winnable, especially since the Heat were a below average finals opponent, but hard to imagine the Lakers beating Denver even with a great supporting cast considering how cooked Bron's foot was.

This season? Forget about it. Even if they miraculously make some A1 trades that significantly improves the roster I can't see them winning four rounds against this slate of opponents. Far too many strong teams.

^ What Pelinka did in the wake of 2021 is still in contention for greatest roster-building malpractice I have ever seen (somewhere between the Billy King Nets and the Shaq-Suns trade, roughly on par with the “New Slant” 76ers; historical tip of the hat to basically any team daring to make big trades with Auerbach or the Lakers in the late 1970s / early 1980s).

The 2020 Lakers went 52-19, comfortably won a title, and then started the next season 28-13 before Lebron went down. The remainder of the season was ugly — as you would expect missing two superstars — but they still took a 2-1 lead over the eventual conference winning Suns before Davis went down.

Obvious next move? Blow up the roster!

Also, funny that the Lakers have been in the market for a starting PG for the last four years and expended damn near all of their resources in their quest to find one just to end up with D'angelo Russell. Dennis Schroeder, Russell Westbrook, D'angelo Russell.. these are the PGs Pelinka gutted the roster and forked up 1st round pick after 1st round pick for.

Just had this thought watching Immanuel Quickley torch Memphis. If only the front office had the creativity/vision to target under the radar players like that.
