Funny because I think Joe gets too much analysis based on regular season accomplishments. This is a ridiculously talented roster who should easily obtain a top regular season record. Come playoffs everything gets magnified. We will see then.
I mean I don’t even think I’ve seen him get praised that much?
Last season he came in under trying circumstances and we got to the ECF where our second best player was absolutely horrific.
He also got criticised plenty in that series for the lack of Grant, the execution late in the first few games etc.
This season any time we lose (which has been extremely rare) the default thing seems to be to throw out all the usual bash Mazzulla lines.
I’m personally waiting to see how the season finishes up before making my mind on a
second year coach in his mid 30s. He’ll probably be fired for sure if they go out again in the playoffs in disastrous style
Here is the thing. We have an extremely competitive roster with some great players. Hiring a "coach in his mid 30s" was Probably not the way to go.. Yes there were some tough circumstances involved. But winning a title is hard enough (1 in 38 years) a more seasoned coaching Veteran (I wanted Rick Carlisle) would have been much better fit. Boston hired back to back coaches with NO HC experience who both failed in what we needed most, Guidance in close games at finishing. Especially in the playoffs.
Maybe one day Joe will grow and become a great coach. But as of Now, he looks green at times and definitely looks lost as what to do often. All while I think he definitely is too scared to tell Brown to stop dribbling so much and for Tatum to take far less ISO step back 3s.
It is what it is. Mazzulla is the coach now and I don’t think he’s been nearly as bad this season as some are making out.
Bashing Mazzulla has almost become like the new bash the officiating. Tonight he was being bashed despite benching a struggling starter and putting Tatum on SGA which really turned the tide late.
Also to say Ime failed is just absolutely ridiculous. He got us to the finals and our best player got outplayed by a top 15 all time great.
As for Carlisle that guy coaches NBA games these days like he’s coaching the Harlem Globetrotters. Both the Mavs and Pacers have wheeled out some of the more pathetic defences I’ve ever seen.
People spent all of last season bashing Joe for the shift in focus to offence, would hate to see all the bashing Carlisle would have copped
