All time scoring/nonscoring teams -- pick your period

Post#1 » by penbeast0 » Mon Jan 1, 2024 2:06 pm

Sticking with contemporaries, maybe a decade at a time though no reason you can't go 2015-2024 rather than everything having to be around multiples of 10. Pick one top 5 in the league offensive big that played poor defense and one top 5 defender that played poor offense. then two guys that would play the 3 (combo forwards and wings), then two that are guards.

example: ABA

Julius Keye
Dan Issel

Wendall Ladner
George Gervin

Don Buse or Fatty Taylor
Mack Calvin

Mmm. A bit of a misnomer, or maybe overly simplified, to call guys "one dimensional" on the basis of "offense" and "defense," no?

Like, Anthony, sure. Gervin, sure. But Kidd was both a high-end playmaker, an outstanding rebounder for a guard and a high-end defender. And Nash was both a high-end dribble penetrator, shooter and playmaker. Sure, speaking to your setup, Nash wasn't a positive contributor on the defensive end and Kidd was not a good scorer, but still...

Also, Shane Battier was a significant 3+D guy, who wasn't really one-dimensional at all. Bruce Bowen was like Shane Battier but with weaker shooting from anywhere but the corner 3. Both of them were able to contribute on either end. They were roleplayers, for sure, but being a roleplayer doesn't mean you are one-dimensional.
