I'm pretty sure that whether we got below the cap or not, early bird rights limits what we can offer Monk in any scenario. We could have 40 million in cap space and could still only offer him up to that 4/72 deal or whatever it is. Not a cap expert but I believe that to be the case.
Ideally Monk likes it in Sac and wants to continue playing here and with Fox and he signs a 1+1 for the max we can offer then opts out after the first year and extends for more when we have full bird rights.

I wouldn't consider it to be concerning but it's our only option. We had the same limitation when we needed to extend Holmes as well since both guys originally signed 2 year deals with us. Obviously Monk is worth a lot more so I hope he agrees to stay.
