I’m not really expecting him to contribute anything this season. Just really hoping to see him improved in the summer league to give us some hope of him having a better sophomore season

As of now, he needs to just be viewed as a complete project. The kid clearly isn’t ready and I don’t see it coming anytime within this season.

The goal at this point should be on ideally having him ready for a small role next season and then maybe a more expanded role off the bench by his 3rd year. If he still can’t put it together by year 3 then it’s not gonna happen. At least not here with the Raptors

We may have drafted a bust folks. Pains me to say it as a KU fan.
I'll wait till year 3 to make any concluding remarks pertaining to him though.

Mark_83 wrote:The hardcore cope on Gradey hasn't been seen in these parts since Bargnani. We're so desperate for any positive signs that we'll cling onto anything just to give us hope. I'm not saying he's a bust, but have you ever seen a player with his draft pedigree suck this bad early on who eventually turn into a star? When you can't even succeed with your one bankable skill at the G League level, where you have scrubs dominating something is wrong.

Star was always super unlikely, the reasonable hope would've been rotation player. Sucking would be one thing (ex. Fultz), as would strength, adjusting to game speed, etc. I just can't recall a shooter who can't shoot, which is definitely cause for concern.

Bufkin has also been terrible and is older. George is getting lots of minutes and has been really bad too.

From what I have seen on his youtube tapes, Webster/Masai selected mostly a 1 dimensional player. When you select a 1 dimensional shooter, you better had a roster with players that can get him the space and open looks he needs to succeed. Because I just havent seen any proof he can create his own space to take advantage of his shooting range. And theres no way he develops a handle. Only player that went one dimensional with dribbling to a more complete player was DeMar and he worked his ass off at it.

We all know you cant create space for shooters like him simply by moving the ball around.

With the current numbers, all signs point to a bust. But Im not sure who else would be better at 13.

Who else could have been better at 13 :

George (16th)
Jacquez Jr (18th)
Podz (19th)

Those guys floors are definitely higher. Dicks ceiling still higher.

Floor and ceiling talk is still subjective. What makes Gradey's ceiling any higher than Kevin Huerter?

Getting IQ and RJ does lessen the blow of this. I'm not expecting him to contribute next yr either. Hopefully he just becomes a good role player but not looking good.

Lmao Bufkin is 2 months older, this isn't even worth mentioning.

And 32 PPG on 55% FG is not terrible by any stretch of the imagination.

Half the people didn't even know what he could do when we drafted him. "Oh, well he's white so he can shoot, probably. We need that, right?" was like the prevailing sentiment on draft night.

Not going to give up on Gradey, but when we did draft him I felt we drafted for need. That feeling is still there with where he is currently.

People were calling me an idiot for saying to cool off on the Reggie Miller and Klay Thompson comps lol.

He just looks so rushed on everything, even here. Great NBA players play at their own pace, they don't get sped up by anyone, it's all simple and fluid, everything with Dick screams nervous energy.

Also, pretty sure he was drafted for what was expected to be a higher floor, not a higher ceiling.
