It just sucks when there’s so many guys across the league who are just purely shooters like Sam Hauser and Sam Merrill who can just shoot lights out off the bench. It’s their only legit NBA skill but they’re stats in that role.

The whole point of picking Gradey was that he was supposed to be like that. He was supposed to be a safe pick with a high floor but low ceiling. Now he apparently forgot how to shoot and is both low floor and low ceiling.

I just don’t understand how a guy who purely made it to the league because of his shot somehow completely forgets how to shoot. Hopefully he can figure it out and make it work

Half the people didn't even know what he could do when we drafted him. "Oh, well he's white so he can shoot, probably. We need that, right?" was like the prevailing sentiment on draft night.

I mean, that's kinda the scouting report so it's not exactly wrong

The worst thing that could have happened to the Raptors last season was the schedule makers lol. They gave the Raptors a very easy second half schedule and that combined with the Poeltl trade made our front office and some fans here think the team was legit lol. That's the reason why Gradey Dick was drafted. He's not a Masai type of pick.

Yeah he was like the best shooter in the draft shot the lights out at Kansas. Was the best off the dribble 3 point shooter in college basketball. And looked to have a overall decent scoring game (also really young too). Gradey forgetting how to shoot 3s was completely unexpected, I'd be like drafting a PG that just forgot how to dribble or something. I haven't totally lost faith but he needs to figure out his shot or he won't be a NBA level pro and that's just the facts.

That was probably the first thing I thought when we drafted him lol. I was like we drafted the best shooter in the draft. Watch him forget how to shoot 3s here.

Idk i think they have Gradey rated pretty highly in general he was mocking anywhere between 9-14 and was supposed to be minimum a Duncan Robinson level shooter with really good size. Him just forgetting how to do his most elite skill is just insane. It's not like he's a 4 year college guy either he was super young I think a young shooter is the type of guys you'd want around Barnes and they probably thought his upside was higher than say Hawkins cause of age.

Bufkin has also been terrible and is older. George is getting lots of minutes and has been really bad too.

Bufkin has barely played due to injury and he’s a full two months older than Gradey so that doesn’t really mean much.

Bufkin is atleast showing that he doesn’t belong in the g league, Gradey is showing that he needs several years in the g league lol

Fultz got nerve damage to his shoulder from a dirt biking accident and couldn't raise his arm above his shoulder for like a year and probably still has lingering effects. Gradey is healthy, maybe it's mental idk but its tough to see a guy go from sniper to bad shooter overnight. Praying he's just taking longer to adjust to the 3 point line.

The way he moves, he's is not very athletic and that should have been a big warning sign for a guy who plays that position. He's extremely awkward out there like he's just learning how to play basketball. I don't watch college ball so I have no clue how he looked in college, but personally, I would avoid guys like that in the lottery. We forget that it was a surprise he fell to the Raptors, so other teams saw something they didn't like.

At the end of the day (listened to a lot of Dennis Schroder), if he gets his shot back, that will change everything.

There were so red flags about Gradeys shot like how he was only a "good" spot up shooter but not elite and he has some really funky looking misses. But man Siakam with his ugly mechanics has had seasons of 36-39% 3 point shooting. Hell scottie couldn't shoot a lick (From HS to 2nd year NBA) till basically this season. Hopefully by next year he's a 38% shooter and this is a distant memory.

He shot 40% from 3 in college, was drafted based on his shooting prowess, so yes expecting him to be able to shoot was not some absurd expectation… no idea what you’re even insinuating with this post.

This is like if you watched Vince Carter mash alley oops in college, saw him win his high school dunk contest and then he got to the nba and somehow could only play below the rim… I’m supposed to act like we shouldnt expect him to dunk? wtf are you saying.

I'm not saying he's a bust, but have you ever seen a player with his draft pedigree suck this bad early on who eventually turn into a star? When you can't even succeed with your one bankable skill at the G League level, where you have scrubs dominating something is wrong.

Bargnani showed innate skill but lack of basketball knowledge/hunger. Gradey shows fundamentals that Bargs lacked. May they both be busts? Possible. Although Bargnani got us Jakob. That's a whole other rabbit hole so there we go.... I'll wait to see what a filled out Gradey looks like. He's showed some promise.

based on his skillset and the teams obvious 3 point shooting woes for years he was exactly the type of pick to address those needs. So it makes complete sense they would go after an offensive, lights out shooter instead of the usual long athletic but raw and unskilled with no shot. Him forgetting how to shoot is honestly crazy. Makes no sense.

In today's NBA they could have either signed or traded for a shooter imo. Everyone can shoot these days. Didn't need to waste a 13th pick on a one dimensional shooter.
