Fontecchio has been brought up numerous times in the thread.
From what I've read, Ainge had been keeping tabs on Fontecchio for years and he finally landed him in Utah. I highly doubt Ainge is looking to move him now that he is starting and shooting 41% from three point range, especially for what the Celtics would offer. Fontecchio more than likely resigns in Utah.
If Ainge liked Fontecchio so much why didn't we sign him anytime after 2017 when he went undrafted? Instead we got Poirier.
He wasn't ready then. A lot of these overseas guys aren't ready when they're drafted at age 19 so they go overseas, develop for a few years and then become NBA caliber players.
We saw it this past offseason with Micic, Vezenkov, Fontecchio and Dante Exum coming to the NBA to join the Thunder, Kings, Jazz and Mavericks. We saw it when Theis came over from overseas to join the Celtics.
Edy Taveres same thing - tried making it in the NBA at an early age, wasn't ready, went back overseas and dominated for a few years - then this past summer got a multi-year contract offer from Portland but stayed overseas because of the large buyout Portland would have had to pay..
