They aren't going to trade for a highly paid player with more than this year remaining on the contract unless they're a superstar. It's been pretty obvious for a while they're all about summer 2024 cap space. They structured their entire offseason around it.

I would love to be proven wrong, but why does anyone think we have close to enough assets to be the team that could trade for Markannen or a similar caliber player. Kevin O’Connor with the Ringer was just saying the Jazz want like five first rounders or similar value assets for Lauri. Even if that is posturing, there are teams like the Thunder with a million future picks for trade that could easily outbid us. I think the most we can do now is three firsts, but someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Getting on the phone with Danny Aigne is a waste of time.
Besides, as mentioned many times, Markkanen can't defend anyone on the Celtics in a playoff series other than their bigs.

Get Marcus Smart, and JJR? Those are the only players on there worth a damn. JJR, would be untouchable though.

Well he's not 23, he's entering his prime years, and will need to be paid in a couple seasons, so he could have some leverage as to where he goes (so mostly contenders would try for him). Won't fit on every team...I think OKC already has a similar or better version of him on a rookie deal. I think Brooklyn would be after him for sure, but not sure of who else. Maybe Cleveland oddly enough.
Definitely not a shoe in, but there's a shot.

I imagine there’s some draft capital attached to Harrison Barnes.
The Kings reportedly had a package primarily built around Harrison Barnes and draft assets.

Hey, I'm not too particular, so I'd gladly welcome Lauri and hop on the bandwagon if he joins my team. However, I believe Siakam might be a better fit. Firstly, Siakam can defend all five players on the Celtics, unlike Lauri. Siakam is also more of a playmaker + shotcreator as alpha. He excels in transition play, a crucial aspect for us (especially since Tobi scores a lot in these type of action). Additionally, Siakam appears to be a more effective finisher who can overpower Porzingis or the Celtics' guards compared to Lauri.
While Lauri may have more value, Siakam brings more to the table for this team.

I can see Smart being the target, but you just know he’ll forget how to shoot once he gets here.

I am physically incapable of supporting Marcus Smart. Please do not allow this to happen.

He has never been a shooter, he's shooting 30% for the season and 32% on his career

I’m hoping that the fix is in and Pascal is telling teams he won’t re-sign with them and that there is already momentum to him signing with us for the max in the off-season, or maybe coming here for less than market value via trade if all the other teams don’t want to commit assets in a trade to someone that could leave in the off-season.

The reason we feel the need for a backcourt partner for Maxey is that Melton and Beverly aren't adept at creating good looks for others; they are more shot-makers than creators or playmakers. If we acquire someone like Siakam, who can create and playmake, I don't think there's a need for an upgrade at the guard position.

People will be wishing death upon us if we combine Embiid’s foul drawing with Marcus Smart’s flopping.

That's fair, although I don't generally consider anything he did prior to 3 years ago to be of value when regarding his future stats.
I suppose I get his playoff stats (45% FG, 36% 3FG, 80% FT last year) mixed up with his reg season stats when thinking about him off the cuff.

This is only part of it. None of the three can create for others and none of the three can bring the ball up under pressure. The best point guard on this team is Joel!
I totally agree the biggest need on this team is point guard.

I don't see Memphis selling, guys. They aren't tanking past this year, and they will want a full arsenal for next year.
