Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
I wonder if this offseason we could have flipped Jrue for that Knicks Quickley/Barrett package and whether we would have been better off. I think we would have and it would have set us up better long term. I don’t think that’s what Giannis wanted and he probably doesn’t extend though. That’s why I can’t blame Horst for the deal. Tough spot to be in.
I do hope maybe Giannis now is more interested in significant change from the core of this team. We should be shopping either Brook or Mids right now on top of Bobby and Pat. Clearly Horst isn’t afraid of trading anybody after Jrue and this roster doesn’t work as is.

Looks like Sac could use a shakeup. Who says no?
Mids/Pat/Cam for Huerter/Barnes/Dav Mitchell.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
I'd be more worried about Dame if it weren't for how catastrophic Grief has been.
The divorce, taking the summer off, and history of slow starts also adds context.
Giannis and Dame can be a historically good tandem and both are locked up for years to come.
If we had traded for Dame earlier in the summer it wouldn't be this way, but that was the only way to get him. It's incomparably easier to find a reasonable coach and pick up some guys to play D.
So yeah Horst has work to do.

I'm not a basketball coach or someone with any great knowledge of X's and O's, but seems like the simplest way to improve the defense is to just compact it. Don't extend pressure way out past the three point line. Don't ask Giannis and Bobby to gamble so much on the perimeter. The guards still might be poor defenders, but now if they get beat, they are closer to the bigs/better defenders, there isn't as much open space for the ball handler to operate, there isn't as much scrambling to recover, Brook has easier extend/drop decisions to make, etc.
It's not a magic wand, but I would think it would help.

As a x and o guy you need to play the passing lanes more. Need to be aware of everything around and not just the guy with the ball.. Guys like Pat can't help you down low. Need to stay in front of guys. Got to be physical. If guys are cutting in the paint without the ball bump him. Slow him down and disurpt his progess. We stand around too much and move when its too late. In the beginning of the season the Jazz were 26th defensively. Now they are 11th and playing better. Coach changed something.RogerMurdock wrote:I'm not a basketball coach or someone with any great knowledge of X's and O's, but seems like the simplest way to improve the defense is to just compact it. I'm guessing as with alot of things in America it has to do with race / optics.

BigO wrote:Which is the most pressing need-a roster change or the coach?
The only significant personnel change since last season has been Lillard replacing Holiday. For those of you who see changing the roster as the biggest need, did that one change put the Bucks in the bottom tier of the league defensively? It's an important question to answer before you make a significant trade.
Hard to say which is more pressing until you change one and see if it fixes the other. So the question is which is more realistic right now and I think roster change is the pretty clear answer. Changing coaches mid season just seems like a disaster and a full punt on the season. Add a defensive wing at the deadline and see what AG can do with it before making a decision on him in the offseason.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
What could possibly get worse if we change coaches midseason?
I’d have more confidence in Prunty at this point. But I don’t think that’d be what we’d do.
I suspect plenty of available coaches have kept their eye on Milwaukee since Stotts bailed.

Literally nothing, I can't think of one positive change Grief has made. Pretty sure the offense will be top 5 even if we had 0 coaches on staff.

Are you asking if 33 year old Jrue has the same trade value as 26 year old OG?

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
This is a bad stretch but we really only need three things to happen:
1. Jae healthy
2. Dame back to Dame
3. Trade for or sign proven point of attack defender.
We are going to look really good if these things happen

Bucks should say no. we could do way better if we put Midds on the market.

I’m not a big OG guy so I would probably rather have Jrue if I’m thinking 2 year window which really everyone in the league should.

Spoken like a Virginia fan for sure. You have to extend NBA defenses farther than NCAA defenses, but not twice as far. But the biggest problem with our defense, I think, is that our players still don't know what we're trying to do or what success looks like other than "winning". How the pieces are supposed to fit together.

Certainly possible. All those things would help but it’s going to be a tough market to pull off number 3 without dipping into a core guy.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
How far off do we think a Bobby for Caruso swap is?
Multi-team trade likely.
MarJon, Portland 2nd, Pat or the like certainly could be included.
Bucks would want another big man here or in a follow up move. Even if we are high on Jae relying on Rolo as our only non-Giannis backup 5 seems like something we’d avoid.

Thats not really relevant to the topic at hand, though, is it?
