We literally heard this exact same crap with the OG situation. Turned out ok.

Facts. Giddy isn't good lol. Especially considering you'll have to pay him a big extension soon.

He probably got lucky on that one and that’s going to allow him to save face even if he just gets good rotation pieces for Siakam. The team is going to be better than before these trades regardless as you should be able to at the least build a very deep team with good players at every position.

Whatever it is, it worked, and if the Raptors leave this season with a young core that makes the playoffs, and a deep bench, you can’t really complain.

Masai needs to pull out a hail mary for Siakam

The odds are against him to making a deal that is comparable in value like the OG trade

The situation has just been grossly mishandled, to be honest.

He got bailed out with the OG situation for two reasons:

1) OG wanted to be in New York
2) He had to take on the future guaranteed salary of Barrett in order to acquire Quickley. This is not an accident. NYK could have easily given us Fournier instead but they wanted to clear salary off their books. Now, it's being marketed as the hometown star coming back home and I actually think he could rehab his value and be a productive player here but let's not pretend like he's been a star waiting to break out in the same way we think about Quickley.

If Masai was more proactive, maybe we move OG earlier for expirings and other value (Sharpe?) and sign Quickley in the offseason. In that scenario, we kind of get a two for one on OG, if that makes sense.

Siakam is a whole other beast though. Not only does it seem he doesn't have anywhere specific in mind that he'd like to end up, one could be forgiven for thinking he's going out of his way to stick it to the Raptors.

With Yak down... Let's trade him haha

Yak and Skillz to ATL
DJM, AJ Griffin, Hunter and Okongwu to Tor

They keep Bufkin, Bey and Jalen Johnson

Capela, Yak
Siakam
JJ, Bey
Bogdan
Trae, Bufkin

That's a compelling 8 man rotation IMO.

We would look like:

DJM, IQ
RJ, GTJ (Dick)
Griffin, Hunter
Barnes, Boucher
Okongwu, Koloko

With Dennis and OPJ (and GTJ) to trade for cheap depth and picks.

More incentive to get a trade done with Indy right now. They need to stay afloat in the standings with Hali out and we need to make sure we don't fall too far behind with Poeltl.
They got the bigs, we got the star.

Siakam for Hield + Walker + Smith + Pick

It's fine if we take Dick and the pick out.

Love the negative spin here. RJ has been on Masai's target before; there have been rumors that Masai wanted RJ a few seasons back. RJ has been pretty good for us so far - probably better than what Fournier would have been. Quickley would have continued to be an RFA this summer if he was on the Knicks; its hard to sign RFAs off other teams (which is why its great Quickely is an RFA for us now).

I honestly get the feeling he's not going to be traded and Siakam is going to walk.

Seems a little light for Siakam man, honestly.

Could we do Hield, Brown, Mathurin & Smith for Siakam, Trent, OPJ?

I think they wanted Barrett over Fournier. Supposedly it started off with fournier plus picks back at the TD. Then barret plus picks. Then barrett, IQ, pick.

But ya going to be hard to find a comparable deal for siakam

Aside from the legal/optics issues, people looking down on Josh Giddy may not realize teams are not offering remotely close to that level of prospect. We are talking Harrison Barnes/Davion Mitchell type of offers. Nobody is going to offer anything remotely palatable if Siakam’s team keeps putting it out there that he’s walking. That means he’s a half season rental. Now you’re limited to playoff team desperate for a push who have marginal prospects they can throw away along with a low FRP/2nds.

It's not light whatsoever. Two top prospects with high upside + a first round pick is fair value for an expiring Siakam.

This isn't a negative spin at all. These are the cold hard facts.

As I said earlier, I'm rooting for the kid. I want him to do well here. But the point still stands that the Knicks dealt Barrett over Fourner because they wanted the capspace.

I'm not worried about him being an RFA. New York wouldn't have ponied up to pay him because they already have Brunson.

That isn’t ideal but it does create new opportunities that they otherwise would not have.

Claxton is UFA is who is target in FA or they could take contracts from teams for young players/picks like OKC has done.

Again it’s not ideal and not what I hope but it does open new opportunities. Masai would be public enemy #1 for a few months no doubt, unless (until?) he pulls out a rabbit draft night or in FA.

Notice though that if you're right, IQ + Fourner + pick was never in the cards. That's what I'm getting at and I have to believe there's a reason for that.
