If we had a guy like Demar on the team now there's no way this board would be so patient they would have pushed to trade him for any random prospect.

They did do that.. they wanted to trade him for players like Aaron Afflalo.
They said he was a poor mans Corey Magette.

DeMar was almost traded for Eric Bledsoe
A lot of fans wanted DeMar gone. But no one wanted to play here. DeMar was the only one who proudly put on a Raptors jersey.

Ah yes, the Official RJ thread - the hottest new club in town. How do I get line bypass?

mrdressup wrote:Best thing about RK's situation is that there's no pressure. He was not drafted at 3 by us with the hopes of running out team on offense. He can be a great 3rd or 4th option for us in a stealth star role. Pressure now shifts to Scottie, actually, because his number are going to head South with our expanded offensive talent.

This is along same lines of why I like De’Andre Hunter on Raptors. He’s extremely talented, he’s just not what you hope for when you not only draft 4, but you traded 8/17/35 to move up to 4. Raps aren’t going to have same expectations. If anything most fans would be pleasantly surprised because the expectations would be so low coming in.

His contract isn’t that bad, it’s not value but not bad, and he definitely fills a need.

Playoffs2023(11 Games) on the same team:
Player A: 19.3ppg |Led his team in scoring in multiple games
Player B : 9.0 ppg |.348FG% and a couple of DNP-CDs due to extreme choking

I was surprised how Player A was almost treated like a throw-in in this great Masai-trade by so many.
Hint:  Player B was second in 6th man voting

We really need to go into the playoffs to assess Player B, before paying ~35M.
Player A made us proud yesterday

I think RJs game will really thrive as a point forward in the playoffs. He keeps this up and we are good at Shooting Guard

I remember there was a debate on who is the better prospect between DD and Sonny "Money" Weems.

I notice that it’s easy with Basketball to get either too enthusiastic or too down with players.

Sometimes you have a good shooting night
Sometimes you have bad shooting night
You can hit three or four 3 in a row
You can be 0 on 7
You get to 5 TO in a game , you can get zero
Sometimes you do an efficient play that miss
Sometimes you take a risky low % play that fall

But the bottom line with RJ is that although he is indeed arguably a bit overpaid and somewhat of a neutral asset because of his age. He fit Scottie’s timeline, he is hard working, can play defence, can take the pressure, strong playoffs stats and guess what he can do a 37 point night.

Will he do it every night? Of course not. There will a regression on his Shooting % soon. It’s a given. No one is expecting him to be a top10 NBA player. No one is expecting him to maintain 50% of field goal % and especially not from 3. It’s only being 4 games. Still a very thin sample. Numbers will go down. Not unusual to have a bad shooting night after a good one.

Let’s be patient and wait. Don’t be too harsh on him if he 0 on 5 from 3 against the Lakers. Don’t think he is Stephen Curry if / when he hit 5 * 3’s on 6 shots like he had at some point against the warriors.

There will be good, there will be bad.

Like you said, let’s enjoys the performance when it happens.

He is a valuable piece of this Raptors squad and I can’t wait to see how he will continue to develop and grow

Why can't this be a better fit for RJ, which will lead to more consistentcy? He'll have more space here compared to NY, he's the only lefty on the team compared to the Knicks who has 2 other Lefty's as their main option's. He's also had like 3 coaches in his Knicks era

Did DD earn his "DeFrozen" label by his 4th or 5th season? I don't remember. Maybe after?

Count me among the ones with zero patience for DD back in the day. Glad Masai stuck to his guns and traded DD away when he did.

RJ going up against SGs and guard in general has open up his muscle game. Big difference vs going against SFs and PFs.

It doesn't matter as NBA switches everything and all teams hunt for mismatches..RJ scored 30 on us multiple times on OG and Scottie and anyone in the league. what matters has been his consistency..he has been too damn streaky .
I really hope we keep a big lineup by starting him at SG though I did see Barnes listed as the SG last game somewhere  ...must be his PR team

Garland is looking like the best pick in that draft, not best player of course, but Zion and Morant have been a headache.

Barrett has been very good so far, but let's temper our expectations.

Knicks fans generally liked Barrett but the big issue with him was consistency. He would be great one night and crap the next, which infuriated them at times. Hopefully he become more consistent.
