“I loved going to the locker room and remember coming to the games,” Barrett said. “I loved watching Matty and Jack on TV every night. There are a lot of things. This is home. I liked a young DeMar [DeRozan]. A young DeMar was dunking everything. A young Terrence Ross was good. Sonny Weems played good. I got a lot of memories.”

This must be the reason why someone bumped the old "Sonny Weems or Demar DeRozan" thread lol

Continues to play solidly and within himself. It is pretty unexpected given how inefficient he's generally been, that he's been super efficient in his first five games. Keep waiting for him to struggle, but he's making the right plays.

He's been a much more effective passer here than in NY. Part of that has got to be that New Yorks offense with Randle didn't allow him to create as much as he's done here.

RJ has "it". He can score at will when he is on, seems like NYK ruined his development.

RJ Barrett as a Raptor
5 games

21.5 pts per game
7.2 reb per game
4.6 ast per game

61.5 ... FG%
48.0 ... 3pt%
We all have different opinions, and that is one thing that makes this forum great.

I think people are really underestimating how much playing away from the NYC bright lights and finally in his proper position is helping RJ settle. I think we're just a better fit for him than NY was and he's really starting to shine. I hope he can keep it up, it would be such a great comeback story.

Teams are trying to hide their worst defender on him and he's just killing them. If teams start putting better defenders on him, that only helps guys like Scottie, Siakam, IQ.

He is obviously a beneficial player. There have been a good amount of pros who didn’t look amazing playing for the Knicks, theyre not exactly development oriented.

The toxic asset thing was blown out of proportion.

He is a good kid. He has the competitive drive and a professional approach. I'm hoping he can shed this "toxic asset" label. He has been playing like a former #3 pick so far as Raptor.

Hey Guys, I'm a huge Knicks fan and I come in peace. Rj and Quick are both my guys. I've watched every single game in their career so far and I just want you know that they will always show effort no matter what the score is. They work really hard on their game and both of them improved every single season. The inconsistent thing about RJ is overblown, sure he has ups and downs but since the second half of last season until know he actually is really good. Playoffs and Fiba he was great. The three point shot is the one thing that is shaky but other than that he is good. The problem with him in NY was that we used him as an 3&D guy, which is absolutely not who he is. OG on the other hand is just that. For us that's what we need now. But I can already tell you that RJ is miles ahead of OG offensively, especially creating his own shot. Defense is another story, I didn't expect OG to be this good. I just wish you guys good luck with RJ and Quick. You got some good ones.

Fit is very much a thing, especially for non-stars. I think what has helped RJ is that coming to a new team forces him to consciously find that fit with teammates, he's stepping back a bit to pick his spots better. He's taken 1 midrange shot outside the paint since coming here.

Very happy with RJ. His footwork and ball handling has been impressive.

Averaging 21/7 and 3.4 assist here on some serious efficiency. Obviously he won’t shoot 50% from 3 all year but damn, when that shot is falling, he looks like an All NBA guy.

Defensive wise, he has the tools to do the job but needs the awareness needs work. Having our 4 guys where their usage has been absolutely joyful to watch and has made them all better, and made the other pieces shine as well at times (Poetl, Boucher, Thad, Dennis).

I like what I’m seeing and after years of being in the “trade Pascal camp”, I think I’m fine just keeping him and sorting out the money later. They all compliment each other well and we are flying down the court.

RJs success with the Raptors is going to inspire future players in this town for sure. Hes showing consistency and an ability to get us buckets when the shots from distance arent falling. Really like the guy and his attitude.

He is playing with more forced and looks way more engaged and motivated as a Raptor thus far. Let's hope and see if that holds up over time and is not just the initial buzz of becoming a Raptor.

I like how tough he's been playing. He imposes his will on the game; you notice him out there. You couldn't really ask him to play much better than he is right now besides a dumb foul here or there. Its almost impossible he'll keep shooting 58% FG and 50% from 3, but he's showing a willingness to pick his spots so it does look like his efficiency can improve from his NY days.

And that won't change. Like I said, I've really seen every game. He takes a midrange here and there but it won't be many. It's definitely something he needs to work on to become a Star player.

His driving and passing is reminding me of 'good' DeRozan games. Not a direct comparable, but there are some similarities from a size, handle, strength, foul drawing, downhill attacking perspective. If he is a better defender than DD, that's a winning player.

Offensively, he's been wayy better than expected. Definitely brings a new dimension that OG/Precious couldn't.
