Re: GOAT 1v1 player (PF Edition)
We may play differently. I was thinking of the rules when they used to actually play One to One tournaments for NBA players back in the 70s. 21 and horse for us growing up were different than 1v1.

I think KG’s intensity, ability, and length on defense along with versatility on offense is too much for him to lose 1v1

Barkley is more efficient around the basket and better on the boards but no defense. I'm going Giannis because he has the best handles as well as great athleticism, scoring efficiency, and defense plus he is one of the few that will force the opponents to guard him at the 3 point line to set up interior scoring.
Barkley is more efficient, but I don't think it's because of his shooting touch (though he's very good inside the paint).
Giannis theorethically should be at the top here, but I struggle to see him dominating sturdy defenders one on one in halfcourt, as I have seen him struggling to do so many times before.
That is THE reason I'm leaning Dirk in this tbh, but I can see the argument for McHale.

I think 21 and 1v1 is still distinct, it's just that it's not explicit if this is a game of 1 on 1 up to 21, or the actual game of 21 and there are only 2 players.
In actual 21, you've gotta go with Dirk not even a debate. 50/40/90, the game is won with the free shots, not the buckets.

We mainly played one on one, HORSE, and taps (like 21 but you had to tap in the rebound rather than control it and shoot in order to force a change of FT shooters).

Barkley said he struggled against length. I took Davis here, he is just too fking long and mobile, with a decent offensive game at his peak, and some added strength that makes him the most versatile for me. Modern KG would be cool but idk about his shot selection.

Bird.

He’ll tell his opponent what to do before they do it and he’ll still get scored on lmao

Think I would take KG here but very unsure, I don't trust Davis' shooting touch even in a 1on1 with more energy to dedicate to offense. Giannis is the other choice, I'm not sure if KG has the strength to contain him. If he doesn't, Giannis would be my choice.

McHale might be the dark horse here. Excellent, long defender with incredible post moves.

I’m thinking Dirk. He has the best setup from the triple threat amongst these guys and the younger version had pretty good mobility. KG is not good enough of an isolation scorer and Giannis is useless outside of the paint.

Bird made all defense. Early/prime Bird is a better defender than several guys on this list.
