There was a loud rumor that we refused to include Martin in the Dame deal. Who knows if that’s true or not but everyone loves him here including Butler. He even mentioned how on edge he was about trade rumors since he loves it here so much. Sounds like someone who would be willing to stay at an MLE discount.
I guess you can never have too many wings in today’s NBA, but it seems a luxury when we have Jimmy and Jaime already there, and such a dearth at PG.
If the price is right though, I’m happy to keep Caleb. I just don’t want to overcommit and have another meh contract on the books. Given he’s been on a budget deal though, he’s going to want to get paid.
The elephant in the room is allocating Duncan’s soon to be 19.4 million towards that said PG and looking for a value shooter. We had Strus playing ahead of Duncan the last two years. We all should be thrilled that Duncan came in and recouped his trade value from being a serious paper weight. Let’s not risk him being that paperweight again at the worst time clogging up close to 20 million of the cap. Get a PG and see what Swider can do. If you get Rozier you could also possibly swing for Hayward to fill the Duncan role.
The problem here, and I think we keep going in circles about this, is not what does the team need or want. Its a math problem, and a Cap problem that needs to be solved first before making any deals.
Anything that involves Lowry trade is difficult to do, which is why they will look to the most likely scenario let him expire. Because there are salaries that increase next year, and where we stand overall, Kyle is only providing about $12-14M in salary relief his 30M salary cannot be traded 1for1 unless A. we get an expiring equal to 30M, there inst such a thing at the PG position in any team, so thats not gonna work, B. we get 2 players one being a $15-16M expiring and the other the signed to the difference to fall in our cap space. First of all looking around that is hard to find, it will need to be a multi team trade which brings us to the second issue any team that has 15-16M in expiring wouldn't give that up in a multi team trade unless they got some draft compensation in return since they are losing their expiring.
Caleb, no longer has the value he had once, so trading him at this point is only as filler, unless its to a contender whom is going to risk taking on his injury concerns.
Trading Herro for another SG doesn't solve our issues unless that SG is an elite ball handler/distributor we can put at the PG position, and shift Duncan or start JJJ at the SG spot.
Duncan is problably the best dollar for dollar value we can trade at this point because, his contract is going up another 2M and we can keep Lowry to give us Cap relief and resign him to a min deal. However this one is tricky because only a contender in needed of elite 3pt shooting that preferably inst in our conference would be key, and they would need to have a young PG they are willing to give up in the deal.
