The deep, dark, we're talking about it in 30 years embarrassment is pissing away the best season of Giannis's career and a championship quality roster, because you're trying to save face on a disastrous coaching hire.

I'd do it if my other preferred trades are not available. That Wiggins contract though is oof.

Bucks get: GPII, Looney

Warriors get: Siakam, Portis, Payne

Raptors get: CP3, Kuminga, AJ Green, GSW future first

That leaves the Bucks with:

Lillard
GPII/Beasley/Pat
Khris/AJJ/Marjon
Giannis/Jae
Brook/Looney

This is great and deserves its own thread. So easy to only focus on defense but the offense is a huge problem too. And a lot of it is Giannis not being willing to change his game. Dude is all talk and might be the biggest reason we only ever win one.

Giannis is the biggest reason we won one in the first place.

Absolutely. GOAT Buck and has had an amazing impact on this city. I’m grateful. But if he hangs it up in 8 years, wins another MVP but we end up with only 1 title? If we never even make it back to the finals? Packers fan know, there’s going to be a lot of regret and wondering what went wrong.

Really good read from Nehm/Partnow in The Athletic today. Talked about a lot of different issues, including:

1. With Bud, we primarily had GA at the rim. With Grief, we have him working as more of a blitzer/trapper/roamer. This is killing our defensive rebounding and allowing teams more o boards/easy shots at the rim.

2. While the Bucks still have Lopez primarily in the drop, they are still trying to use the remaining roster to trap and blitz teams. Partnow points out the obvious element that we don't have the roster for this especially at the guards. Bucks are last in the NBA in turnover percentage.

3. Bucks are simply not getting back on defense in transition. Last in opponent transition percentage. He believes this is more execution than scheme.

4. We allowed the 8th most drives/100 possessions in the halfcourt a year ago. This year we have allowed the most.

5. Scheme doesn't fit with personnel. Duh.

6. All of Lopez's individual defensive numbers are still great. He isn't the issue.

All in all, I think assuming we do not make a major personnel addition at the wing, we need to move GA back to being more of a rim protector/rebounder and live with the three ball. Dominating the paint is our identity with this team, and if teams want to get into a shootout with us, I feel we can win a lot of those. What we cannot do is allow teams to get easy paint points and dominate us on the glass while also getting a bunch of easy transition baskets. Essentially what I'm saying all revolves around going back to dominating the rim on D.

Man cmon, when Giannis took a backseat and started setting picks, passing, and not attacking our offense looked so much worse than it does when he plays his game.

This nonsense has to stop. He isn't perfect, and there is a lot you can criticize if you want to but that's not it.

I believe this offense is at its best with Lillard initiating offense and GA starting off ball. We should be running GA/Lillard PnR almost every possession and then working off of that. With Lillard bringing the ball up, it automatically creates great spacing the second he's 30 feet from the basket.

Lillard is not a great off ball player. His value is in completely altering the defenses focus the second he crosses halfcourt.

Article basically sums up what we've been griping about all season, i.e. there's some very simple and obvious fixes plus the proverbial "low-hanging fruit" to make the defense better, but has the coaching staff shown any semblance of progress or competency in identifying/rectifying those issues?

I starkly remember at the beginning of the season explicitly saying that Griffin didn't even need to be a good coach for us to win a championship with this roster, and I stand by that. He just had to not be a, and I quote "pissing down the side of his leg" level of incompetence. Well....

I believe that is possible. The problem I have seen most of the time is Dame uses that to dribble around, take bad shots, or very lazy passes that end up leading to fast break points for the other team. Most of Dames passes are on the perimeter to Khris, Beasley, or Lopez. Then I watch Giannis play hero ball because of it. Then, best case scenario, Dame gets hot in the 4th quarter and they individually close out the game. This has not been every game, but it does happen often.

Right. I feel like if we just move GA to the rim, stop the incessant trapping and just play straight up and switch in the halfcourt, and then focus on getting back in transition, you are at least in the top half defensively.

No team outside of the top 15 in D rating has won a title since the turn of the century. So there's that.

Bucks In Smart/Rose
Memphis in THT/Bobby
Utah Pat

Smart upgrade starting 5 and Rose is needed for salary
Grizz get 8 million off Smart salary and a solid player in Bobby.
Jazz pray to God they find value in Pat.

I used to think Bud was a stubborn coach but Griffin has taken that torch and dialed it up a notch trying to make this "aggressive" defense work. There are several staff members from last year's team still here and I'd love to know what they think is going wrong and if they've tried to speak up about it or if that's not even an option after the way Stotts was handled.

Idk if its that teams have figured it out finally or what, but the blitzing beyond the 3pt line has been a glaringly obvious issue since christmas. I don't recall it being so clear earlier.
