Siakam rumours
It’s hard to say where the Raptors are in the trade, extend or wait-him-out game they’re engaged in with Pascal Siakam.
They’re not tipping their hand and sources throughout the league can’t get a firm grip on what might happen.
But everyone wants to know.
NBA scouts from a couple of Eastern Conference teams sat a row behind the Toronto media at the Clippers game and, as soon as they spotted a familiar face, the question rang out: “What do you think they’ll do with Siakam?”
A few days earlier, in a friends-and-family area just outside the visitors' locker room, a couple of high-profile agents milling about were asking the same question.
It likely wasn’t intentional but members the brass — president Masai Ujiri, general manager Bobby Webster, vice-president of basketball strategy Keith Boyarsky and chief scout Patrick Engelbrecht — were on all or part of the trip to lend more intrigue.
Who did they talk to? What did they see? Did Webster chat with Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair? Was that Ujiri huddled with Golden State GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. in San Francisco? Why was Engelbrecht around? That was Boyarsky joining the group for dinner, right?
The Chase Center was a sight to behold. Webster was on his phone, Ujiri chatted with Boyarsky and then with Webster before breaking off from the trip. Everyone seemed to be eyeing each other a bit warily.
There have been a lot of pre-deadline road trips over the years when the possibility of a Raptors trade was real. None had the feeling of an imminent move more than this one.

We CANNOT take the chance of letting Siakam get to free agency though... losing an asset like him for nothing could set the franchise back years. Imagine if we didn't make the OG trade and had nothing on that front?
Masai put himself in a tight spot but hit a home run with the OG move. We will see how the Siakam situation unfolds but he will need to do something similar here too. Again, losing him for nothing is not an option.
You are over-rating Pascal's impact now. He's actually slightly below average defensively. No longer getting a lot of rebounds and unable to keep his man in front of him on drives.
Really the player missed vs the Clippers was Poeltl, not Pascal.
Yes, if you pay $10 for a $8 product and might decline to $6 in the 4th year, you still at least have $6. But if the $8 goes to another team, You're left with $0. Of course Pascal's situation is not ideal, but you just cannot lose him for $0

Lol oh great almost our entire team will be expiring in 2 years. All these players are expiring in 2 years when Scottie will be needing an extension. Not sure Masai wants that
