Re: Celts Get Royally Bucked! Loss vs MIL 1/11
Very weird game.
Celtics looked gassed from the first few minutes. Brown missed some absolute bunny mid range shots and then they looked off defensively.
Only thing that really annoyed and maybe concerned me about tonight was the awful offence from the end of the first through to the midway point of the second. Tatum just stood there while all these other guys hogged the ball. Should never happen. Tatum has to anchor those bench units.
Porzingis was awful which I don’t think helped either.
Bucks were up for this one, the Celtics weren’t. Annoying we don’t play these guys again until March. No doubt there will be plenty of stupid hot takes before then.

This is a fact.
Maybe or maybe not.
Great coaches overwhelm their staffs.
You think the Staff mattered more than Auerbach, Belichick, Scotty Bowman, and Billy Martin?
Auerbach didn't have a staff.
Belichick was fired in part because of how bad he allowed his staff to get.
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

They are part of the staff, that’s the point?
Joe is whatever, but this team has a great coaching staff, full of some of the highest regarded assistants in the league. That’s good enough.
Joe honestly has been a good amount better this year imo but he's still not elite or anything.
Like all he has to do with this team is just not be noticeable, as long as we don't notice his decisions that's a good thing

Lmao the responses to this are going to be unhinged I can't wait
Reality: Joe's like the 15th or so best coach in the league. That's good enough to win a title if the team is in sync and if Tatum is borderline top 5 and Jaylen/KP top 25
exactly. It would be different if we were challenged for talent and needed some sort of voodoo stuff to happen like Miami last season beating us with elite coaching.
We have more than enough talent and the right offensive and defensive systems in place to get this thing done.
Long term with Joe being so young he may prove to be an elite coach but right now he’s just doing his job to me and not really doing a whole lot wrong despite some of the rants on here.

Tonight's game was really not a surprise.. Some of us have the common sense to say you cannot play such few players in a back to back or this would happen..
Lo and behold it happened like we said.. But even worse..
So let’s just forget about trying to win last night hey ?

A serious answer is one of the things that may cost us in the playoffs are as star players being burnt out.. This clearly was a complaint last season before the playoffs and clearly Tatum and brown appeared burnt out..
Never mind the fact that coach joe is technically challenged.. And he doesn't have much ability to hold star players accountable.. But he literally Will have tired players come playoffs..
We still may end up winning eighteen because this roster is so strong.. But just like with doc rivers. We will be winning it despite our coaching not because of it
Burnt out?
I mean yeah they play some heavy minutes but they are young and they still need to win games. No different to every other contender.
The Celtics like a number of contenders don’t have a particularly great amount of depth and they’ve had a hard schedule to start the season so what is the coach meant to do? Lose games by resting them all the time?
Tatum is playing 36mpg and Brown 34mpg. Plus they have been ultra cautious with Porzingis and Horford all season.
Once we get past this month we have a very easy schedule so we will definitely see some more blowouts and rest for the starters.

Back to back. 5 in 7 nights. Should have rested the starters.

Meh.
Can’t blame them for wanting to compete against the Bucks.
They were going through the motions by the second quarter and then never saw the second half.
Not a big deal

Thanasis may be the funniest player in the league to watch. He runs like he’s doing a 40 yard dash, has no skill, and flops like the love child of Marcus Smart and Kyle Lowry.

I love how he’s already penciled in that if we win the chip it will have nothing to do with Joe
May as well save a bunch of money & go hire someone on the street

I made a decision years ago to stop even trying to change anyone’s mind about something over the internet. 99.99% of the time it’s a waste of time and effort, most don’t come with an open mind and a willingness to change it. In person people seem more prepared to…however I’ll respond to you with my thoughts and you can take it or leave it, I don’t want to get into an endless back and forth.
At the end of last season I wanted Joe gone. I thought the team played in a one dimensional fashion, that Joe lacked a feel for moments and that he wasn’t creative enough with his lineups.
This year, Joe started the year off well at camp with his focus on defense first and tweaks to offensive plans (the curveball in his terms). The team has had remarkable cohesion given the number of roster changes.
There has been a major difference in how the Celtics have played, 2nd in post ups and efficiency and matchup based variation with defensive schemes, not just drop or switch.
I don’t know how many years have gone by where I’ve grown more and more frustrated with JB, but finally he is playing with far more court awareness than he ever has and he credits Joe for how well he is teaching all the players on how to read the game.
The Bucks keep saying to be patient with them because of how they need to learn together, but the Celtics have had more roster changes.
Even if many here like to credit anyone but Joe for our best in the league record and greatest of all time starts at home, it takes a good head coach to listen to others and make decisions. Contrast that with how Stotts left because Griffin didn’t like him talking to the players.
Many analysts have praised Joe’s creative defensive matchups and schemes, he has also tried a large number of lineups often with good success. Joe is the second best in the league in points from A/TOs last time I checked.
Joe supports his players and also is not afraid to call them out, a sign of a good coach.
Only time will tell whether his feel in the playoffs this year will be better.
I have been turned around 180 degrees on Joe. He’s not perfect but has improved rapidly and is humble enough to say when he gets things wrong which is essential for learning.
Brad knows his **** far more than I ever will and has made many decisions in his short time as PoBO that require balls of steel. If Joe wasn’t the coach in his opinion to take us to a chip he would be gone, there is no way he would remain with the ownership spend on everything else otherwise.
Others can think what they want, but all I ask is for all to keep an open mind, pay attention to all the things he’s doing well and give credit for it along with the criticism where he deserves it.

It’s pretty strange.
The only series I worry with Joe in would be against Miami because Spo just has a habit of screwing up what elite teams want to do. He did it last playoffs to us and the Bucks and the one before against Ime.
Joe’s job to me is just for him to ensure Tatum and Brown are able to get their shots within the flow of the offence while ensuring the ball isn’t stagnant.
If we can go into the playoffs and not tighten up offensively we will be very hard to beat.
Our last two seasons have fallen short because two teams have figured out how to significantly disrupt our offence.

If NBA powers-that-be want a quality product and are urging teams to not rest their stars in marquee games, they got to find a way to eliminate B2Bs with travel. I would’ve said the same thing before we won yesterday against the Wolves, but I forgot.
Home B2Bs are fine. B2B vs. Clips/Lakers are fine. Worst they can do is B2B vs. Knicks/Nets.
Having said that, I expected more than nothing from our guys. Slightly disappointed but one game doesn’t erase what they’ve already done this season. More an aberration (5-2 2nd night of B2Bs) than something to be concerned about.

Like I was saying last night, Mazzulla is a bonehead for playing the Starters so much.
Very Shortsighted to play, just to Win just one Game.
We've gotta Win the Whole Season. Regular Season should be a Healthy mix of Bench, and even Deep Bench players.
Playoffs is when you shorten the Rotation.
Instead, we have this Debacle. The Starters didn't even play the 2nd Half.
Ridiculous.
Mazzulla doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. Time for better Head Coaching.
I Vote to remove Mazzulla, and go with Sam Cassell as the Head Coach.

I think that Mazzulla is running the Starters into the Ground. They wont have anything left in the tank come Playoff time.
Totally Agree with all these Answers. If we Win, it will be despite Joe's horrid Coaching style; not Because of it.
