Indy has the lowest payroll in the league and could help GS quite a bit in terms of dodging further taxes. I think Pascal still ends up in Indy, but given the payroll composition of Indy they could absorb Wiggins and send someone like Brown back.
If Walker is the sticking point for Indy to get Siakam. They could try to take Wiggins to get some youth for Toronto from GS. Maybe in return for Brown and someone else GS sends Wiggins, Moody and a few 2nds.
Toronto sends Pascal and Porter
Toronto receives Moody, Toppin, Brown, Smith or Jackson, 1 first and 2nds.
Indy sends Hield, Brown, Toppin, Smith
Indy receives Siakam and Wiggins
GS sends Wiggins, Moody and 2 2nds. GS receives Hield and Porter.
Indy gets to keep Walker and majority of their core
GS rids of Wiggins contract and gets an expiring in Hield and Porter. GS keeps their boy Kuminga
Toronto gets a solid role player on a team option in Brown that could fit nicely in the starting 5 or off the bench. They get some youth in Moody, Toppin and Smith plus a few picks.
There could be variations. Maybe Kuminga instead of Moody. Or Hield going to Toronto instead of Brown.
Over-all not a horrible deal for either side.
My favorite part of this deal is that Toronto gets a 1st materialized out of thin air. Must be much easier to get them when other teams don't actually have to give one up.
Beyond that, let me ask a question: Is Siakam worth Hield + Brown + Toppin + Smith, or much more than that? Because Indy is paying 2 starters and 2 primary rotation players, AND taking on Wiggins' nuclear contract, which is getting well into king's ransom territory. And then, if your 1st was actually a typo, Indy's also expected to cough up a 1st? Ugh.
Pascal's a good player, but they would be completely gutting their depth. Maybe this works if GS gives up a 1st as well, and sends it to Indy, and they really think Pascal's worth a crater in their roster. But I'm inclined to think that Indy's not likely to blow up the first working team they've had in a long while before they've even had a taste of the postseason.
Meanwhile, I doubt GS wants to pay the exorbitant going rate for passing off a disastrous salary like Wiggins', as opposed to waiting to see if they can coax him back into their version of OG by next season. And we make out like bandits; 2 serviceable rotation players, two promising young players, a 1st
and a 2nd? For a rental in Pascal and a 2-way player?
Sorry, this is probably picking on this idea more than it deserves. But the "we win the deal!" trade ideas out there are incredibly short on balance, and it's just starting to bug me a bit.
