Could Cade and Dejounte Murray Work Out?

Post#1 » by MortSahlfan » Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:42 pm

I've read reports of Detroit being interested in him, and Woj has mentioned Atlanta is desperately trying to move Murray, and will more likely do it sooner than later, mentioning the fact that on 1/15, ANY player is available to trade, and I just hope we don't wait until all the impact players are taken up. We don't need another Joe Harris type.

Dejounte Murray is a great defender, good guy, plays hard, and can be a secondary ball-handler, and he's got height. Their passing could lead to better shots and better outcomes.

Someone mentioned trading Ivey for him, which is fine by me, but if Murray is a bad contract, it's possible to expand the trade and get more perhaps, but either way, I'd trade for him, and don't care who it is. With 3-4 years left on his contract, at least we know he'll be here for a while. We need to know our stability/chemistry, especially to plan future moves - trades, drafts, etc.

Probably looking to recoup assets with all of the picks they traded for him. And right there alone we can't compete with other teams.

But I've always liked Dejounte Murray.

The one quibble is seems like he's another guy who needs the ball. If we're moving Ivey to do it, that works a bit better, but then we have to wonder if that's the right longterm play. It'd make us better in the short term for sure, though.

I don’t think we have the assets to get him.

If we traded Cade for Murray, I wouldn't be mad. You have to care about something to be mad about it and at that point I'd just be done caring about the team.

This is 100% incorrect.

Murray would fit next to Cade beautifully, and Weaver can get the NY pick back, and the Pistons absolutely have tradable assets.

Ivey, or Ausar with a pick, or with Stewart, and Burks would get it done.

This is the exact type of move the Pistons should be making.

I dont think they'd get more than Ivey/Burk and our 1st which will be a top 4 pick. And if I were Atl & Det Id do it. Makes sense for both teams IMO.

1. How do you know Weaver can get the pick back (especially at any sort of reasonable cost)?
2. If the obvious trade piece is Ivey, why would Atlanta want him next to Trae Young if Murray was a bad fit? Seems like they'd have the same issues only worse.

I'd give them Ivey if they somehow wanted him, even though it seems like a bad fit with Trae. I also don't think Murray is a perfect fit with Cade by any means, so I wouldn't go crazy giving tons of picks on top.

Murray's D has fallen off quite a bit. He's not an All-NBA guy anymore, though still better than what we've got. I just wouldn't trade for him thinking you're getting an all-defense guy.

Murray's free throw rate is truly terrible, which makes him a questionable fit as a #2 with Cade IMO, since Cade is no free-throw merchant himself and the team struggles to get to the line as-is. For comparison, Ivey's free throw rate is more than double Murray's, and it really holds back Murray's overall efficiency. His career TS% is worse than Ivey's and only a fraction better than Cade's, and neither Cade or Ivey have been some beacons of efficiency.

So your saying Atlanta wouldn't want ANY of ivey, Ausar, Stewart, Burks, anything for Murray? Where else are they going to get recent top 5 picks for Murray?

As for the NY pick, as stated before, Bojan for the Fournier, and the pick back is absolutely viable, and if need be, throw in some seconds.

The Pistons can get Murray, if Weaver tries.

Thibs has to want Bojan, and he doesn't really like to play guys that don't play any defense. I'm just saying that's far from automatic just because it works in the trade-checker.

And I don't know if they want our young guys. Ivey is a bad fit with Trae. Monty's done a masterful job of tanking Ausar's value and they've got Hunter on a big contract, Jalen Johnson playing like a beast, Saddiq, etc. Stew? Burks? Don't know if those are huge needle movers in a deal.

I feel like Atlanta would be looking more toward win-now trades, which Ausar/Ivey centric deals really aren't. Seems like they'd be aiming more for a Siakam or something like that. Someone that fits with Trae and can help them win this year.

What is your proposed trade? What is the most you would offer?

Atlanta has aspirations. They don’t want any of our players. And God help us if Weaver forks out picks to get us to twelve wins this year.

Murray’s not getting us to 12 games. 7 maybe.

No player is going to save us this year, but player by player, eventually we'll get there. If we get more vets who can already play, we can even make the playoffs. The league is fickle, just like the game. So many 3's, you're hardly ever in or out of games.

Remember Atlanta traded an all-star, John Collins, to Utah for a 2nd round pick. Murray has even more money on the contract. And they want to trade Murray, because Trae needs the ball in his hand all the time it seems like, where as Cade wouldn't

And that’s why a teardown is necessary. These “Pistons interested in” headlines are crap.

Trade our players for picks.

Trade our players for bad contracts and more picks.

We are the definition of a bad team. We are sellers.

If Weaver tries to be a buyer, fire him.

Better yet, fire him anyway.

If you can out plus players around Cade/Duren, you do it. Murray would be a great start.

This is how I look at it, and, how Weaver should look at it.

We have two excellent building blocks in Cade/Duren.

You trade everyone else on the team that FITS with those two. No picks, offer up anyone else though.

So it would be;

Murray
Cade
---
---
Duren

You still have a top 5 pick next year, and a crapload of capspace. This can be turned around quickly, IF the right pieces are sought after.

I don't think its the best fitting, but Murray and Cade would fit/work better than Ivey/Cade IMO. Cade does shoot much better on catch and shoot than off the dribble having someone share more of that offensive load and playmaking load would likely do him well.
