Brad Stevens has until 7/12/2024, to use that Grant TPE.
I think that he Stands Pat, and does his major work in the Offseason.

Yeah, I also think that's what's going to happen.

Shout out to Brissett who's been playing well as of late.
I think he's good enough for limited minutes in the playoffs.
But the Bey trade idea really intrigues me.

Re: Trade/Free Agency Thread 2023-24, Lucky Part 13
I'm really only in the market for an upgrade of Pritchard. Starting 6 and Hauser are good to go for playoff rotation, imo. Kornet/Brissett/Queta will do in a pinch as well, but are outside the top 8 playoff rotation. Those guys don't have to be amazing.
Pritchard is the question mark - can he be that 8th guy and consistently give us a boost? He has good games and is much better for sure, but I feel like they're mainly when we're already rolling. Maybe a handful of games he's given us that spark? I could be wrong and it's more than I realize - I'm just going off a vague feeling. He also hasn't been overtly hunted yet on D in the regular season. He puts in the effort, etc, but he's still just short and can be shot over by guys in the later rounds that will relentlessly search for him like Butler did when PP got in last year. I'd probably sacrifice a little shooting to get a guy that can defend/stay on the floor.
Obviously Jrue/White are gonna play big minutes and maybe PP exceeds expectations, but that's the position I'd mainly look to upgrade.

I think we can get a little “grass is greener” syndrome with Pritchard. For an 8th guy third guard he is all you need. He’s playing very well. Would I like a better defender with more size, can can still floor general off the bench, sure, but I don’t really see anyone out there that’s available for what we have to give.

Yeah, for a 3rd PG, PP is good enough.
To upgrade from PP will be too costly.
JT can defend PGs and SGs.
So I'd rather the Cs get another big or a PF that can defend Giannis.
If Al goes down, the Cs don't have Grant or Ojeleye anymore.

Can Bey defend Giannis?
If yes then that's the guy Brad should trade for.

We get grass is greener about all the bench guys, and heck even the starters when we're feeling ornery.
Upgrading him is hard - Caruso costs a lot, Delon may or may not better, etc. I'm just saying that's the place I'd look. I think upgrading Hauser or Kornet is harder - and less necessary.

Both those guys had moments, but were for the most part over-rated on their ability to stop him. Nobody can - much less a guy that you find for less that than it costs to upgrade PP. Stevens is probably the closest to them on the roster, but he can't get time. And, sure if we can find someone, great, lol.
As for PP defense - it's not about finding guys to defend PGs and SGs. It's about your 8th guy not getting played off the floor when defenses force the switch on him over and over and over and over. We need an 8th guy that can stay out there. Maybe Pritchard can, or at least can score more than he gives up.
I'm just happier with our forwards/bigs depth than I am with the Pritchard as our only reserve guard. Heck, even just augmenting Prichard instead of replacing him is a good step, imo.

I think the arrangement with PP is he agreed to sign an extension because he was assured of becoming the 3rd PG on the depth chart.
That's why he didn't ask to be traded anymore.
Adding another PG who will dislodge PP as the 8th man will not sit well with PP.
We've seen PP play in the east finals and finals in 2022.
I think he's better now and is good enough for this current Celtics team.
It's true some teams, like Miami, will hunt PP on defense.
But so far this season, that has not been a problem.
There's still time as the trade deadline is still a little less than a month away.
My guess is PP has done enough to earn that 8th man spot.
Regarding the insurance for Al at the 4 spot, if the Hawks are serious in saying only Trae and Jalen Johnson are untouchable, I think Saddiq Bey can be acquired at a reasonable price.
Just not sure if Bey can really defend Giannis like Grant Williams.
But Bey certainly has the tools to guard Giannis.
The most realistic scenario is like what Parl said, Brad will just see who's available in the buyout market.

If the Celtics make any addition that’s not completely an injury insurance , Pritchard is going to be a problem in the locker room . Any addition bleeding into his minutes and he’s not going to be happy and he may voice it publicly.

8th options don't get to be problems in the locker room.

Defense seems pretty pedestrian, but I am no expert on the guy….but I agree with you if…

What's the deal with this Ziaire Williams character? Outside of the guys we've already discussed (Konchar, Tillman, Aldama), he's the only other one that fits. He does fit that big wing profile.

The Tinkle God is grossly underrated here. He's having a fantastic season and the last game was a semi-masterclass in PG
efficiency, play, distribution, ball movement... and striking back at Evil Ime with the Alley Oop.
Like Frampton, five decades earlier, Payton has come alive... and I for one welcome our new PG Overlord! You can
never have enough of them...

Because Tillman is like 6'7 so it doesn't make a difference to their interior defense whether he's there or not.
